I was watching Serenity and saw a scene that looked like it would make for a easy first attempt...

Surprised I haven't seen it used in threads before.

Serenity is a cool movie. Firefly was a great series.
I've never dabbled in animated gifs but I've gotta try it. I don't know if you've seen Firefly (assuming you have) but a scene I'd like to work with is where River takes out 3 bad guys as Kaylee looks on helplessly. I'll have to dig that one up when I get home.
I know I've asked before and you've recommended some software, but is there any good free software--or relatively inexpensive (less than $50)--I could get started with on animated gifs?

I was watching Serenity because I just finished watching Firefly for the fourth time. Good stuff.
I use an old version of Adobe ImageReady. I think Gimp/GAP would be your best bet. That won't cost you a dime.

I found this last week explaining how to do it. If you can decipher what to use in Gimp from Photoshop, which is what they used in the tutorial, you should be able to do it.

You can do it with GIMP. I have GIMP GAP loaded also. I believe you need GAP to down load video files so you can edit them into .gifs.

Will some please do one with this software of the Homeland Security guy tilting the grape soda can from "Harold & Kumar" second movie.

I believe it is customary for the idea to be supported with source material.
