What the hell has happened to LSU sports?

Until the past 3 or 4 years, we routinely competed with Florida for the SEC all sports trophy. We had dominant football, baseball and track programs. We had pretty damn good basketball, softball, volleyball, and gymnastics. After 2007 the wheels have come off the machine. Many of our previously dominant sports are total freaking embarassments now. Is it coaching selection? Is it financial weakness? Is it leadership at the top? WTF?

During the 2009-10 athletic year, 17 of LSU’s 20 sports programs participated in NCAA post-season competition and seven of the 10 sports that have concluded their schedules in 2010-11 have reached NCAA post-season play. Six LSU teams posted Top 10 national finishes last season and 12 were ranked in the Top 25.

So I guess Barrett Nugent running the 2nd fastest track time collegiately isn't good enough for you? You should take that up with him...

a combination of alleva, Mike VI, and an uncompleted student union

It's completed so we can't blame it on that anymore

I was wondering when this thread would pop up.
Personally, I don't pay any attention to track, swimming, and all that though it does play in. What I recall is that just a couple years back we were one of, if not the best college sports program in America. Our baseball team was frequenting Omaha, football team was winning championships (granted they are the one that remains at the top), men's bb was a contender to make a run in the tourney, women were a final four lock; also softball, gymnastics, volleyball were all good.
This is not the dominant program from a couple years ago and just because our golf and track teams are good doesn't mean it excuses the drop off in the major sports.
I really don't know who to put the blame on or if we even can. Personally I've never liked Alleva and always thought he was a terrible hire, but he hasn't touched much other than basketball.

Wouldn't you make that argument for lot of other places?

What does that have to do with anything? We're talking about the state of LSU sports. LSU has done very well in sports the last few years. We had a national champioship in football in 07, a national championship in baseball in 09, our baseball team also had a trip to the College World Series in 2008 as well, and the baseball team has won 3 straight SEC tournaments. And also our football team just had a freakin 11 win football season and is expected to be a top 5 team next. It's disgusting how spoiled our fanbase is to be complaining about that.
