I knew it was better for you than refined sugar, but not exactly why. I found this link that explains it pretty well (It's the only one I looked at, so there may be better sources out there )

Looking at some of your posts, it would appear that way.

Thanks for the link. Good enough for me. Now for some late night shopping. I'll be sure to check TD mobile for any other awesome suggestions

BTW, I'm a huge coffee person so a big change I've made is getting skim milk

Huge difference. But, black coffee has a huge amount of anti-oxidents. No sweetener or milk is a big difference.

I actually got bored the other day and started compiling a spreadsheet of all the places I've been in the NOLA and northshore area since I've been here. Just off the top of my head I compiled about 35 different places. Some good, some average. I'm sure I'm missing a few as well.

You have my email if you ever want to meet up for lunch or something just get in touch with me. I'm sure I'll splurge every now and then.

Good, because there's no fricking way I'm going to treat when it comes to the damage we would collectively do at a sushi place

-I don't particularly care for fruit so the first person that says "keep some fresh fruit around the house" can blow me. Well I can eat citrus and bananas. As far as apples, kiwi, berries, and all that other happy horse shite...keep it to yourself.

Eat as much fruit as you can stand. Can you eat berries blended? Protein shakes and Meal replacements can be a good way to lose some weight. You have to make them yourself with Yogurt, fruit, protein powder, and whatever else you want (I add ground flax and brown rice)
quote:

-I enjoy vegetables, particularly of the squash family so any ideas there might help.

Eat vegetables every day. Stir Fry, Grilled, Steamed, just eat them. Zucchinis and Squash are very good for you. Eat color. Try to be gettings oranges, yellows, reds, and greens weekly.

Do you like leafy things?
quote:

-I enjoy fish every now and then but I'm allergic to any white flaky fish you can imagine and I refuse to eat tuna out of the can

Salmon out of the can? I usually aim for at least a couple of seafood meals per week, doesn't matter what - salmon, crab, shrimp - just something.
quote:

-I'm game for any sort of animal or poultry protein and other fish so those might be good places to start

Chicken is always a good place to start, but it can get boring.

I would look to find consistent things to eat. In terms of snacks, keep nuts, yogurt, and granola around. Eat as much fruit as possible, and find some new grains outside of rice. I'm big on Quinoa and Buckwheat.

Oatmeal is huge. Eat that daily if you can stand it. I did that for months.

-What should I do as far as using fat to cook with? Low fat cooking oil? Pam? ( ) I don't do any really high temp frying of any sort but on occasion I'll brown something on about medium high so as long as it's good enough for that I'm good.

Canola and Olive Oil.

I keep margarine around as well. Just in case.
quote:

-What are some healthy fats that I can incorporate? I like avocados so that's a start. Some nuts to throw into my spinach salads maybe?

Both very good starts.

-I definitely need to ween myself off of the amount of dairy I consume. I suppose making the switch to skim milk might be step number 1.

Another good idea. I made the switch to skim as well. But start with yogurt too. Eat less cheese (hard to do).

-plain yogurt with some really good, natural preserves mixed in
-steel cut oats. i like to mix wheat germ in with my oats. if you can get the ratio right, you can't taste it, but wheat germ has the consistency of fine sawdust with a weird nutty taste. so, it goes without saying that you need to get the ratio right. cook your oats in skim milk on the stove top.
-lots, and lots, of vegetables. i like to blanch green beans and asparagus.
-start to count your calories. i wouldn't worry about it with vegetables, but with everything else, this is the most important thing.

What about dijonnaise instead?

Dijon or creole mustard would be better for sure.

Are you implying Meg will be Bee's FIRST love?

Powerman,

To reiterate what was said above:
1. Eat a BIG breakfast high in fiber and protein
2. Dinner should be your smallest meal w/ least amount of carbs
3. If carbs, do complex carbs (brown rice, whole wheat, etc)
4. Proteins: chicken breasts, fresh salmon and tuna, shrimp, pork tenderloin (no fatty portions of pork), lean beef (no ribeyes etc.)
5. try and fill up on veggies (you can eat as much as you want)
6. drink LOTS of water throughout the day
7. Healthy snacks between meals is good (dry roasted almonds/baby carrots)

check out the Boar's head horseradish sauce. Or any horseradish sauce for that matter. Has the consistency of mayo, it's not quite as a dramatic or a switch as yellow or dijon mustard. Still has a nice flavor.

my turkey sandwiches usually consist of above, some avocado, and some sprouts. Maybe a slice of turkey bacon if i feel like "cheating".
