I can't think of anything special, but then again, I've been away from the area for several years now.

Triple D highlighted a place in Slidell recently that looked pretty good.

Any suggestions? Something local - obviously not a chain.

And, please don't give me a Mexican place or anything like that.

Still? Wow.

I used to eat at Young's when I was a kid and teenager. I remember it being really good, but I didn't appreciate things much back then.

Here is my review of La Pines, the place on DDD:

Take it for what it's worth.

Good review.

It is really hard to find good gumbo at a restaurant, in my opinion. Or, if you find it at one place, it might not be any good at the next. It is a gamble everytime.

Also ky's in olde towne is a pretty good local place. It's from the young's steakhouse family.

Southside Cafe is my favorite in the area. It's on pontchartrain. Really good menu. Nice lunch spot.

Palmettos on the bayou by the train station is probably the best resturant in Slidell for an upscale (not foraml just not shorts and flip flops) dining (around $25 for dinner). The food is AWESOME. for a casual lunch go to Marina cafe, Southside off ponchatrain, KY's in olde town, and LA Pines off of robert.

If you like sesame chicken try South Seas near the mall. The best I have had.

Yee Chinese

I've traveled the world and have had Chinese everywhere, but Yee is my favorite. I end up eating there about once a year when I am back home.

The sauce is a little thick, but other than that, it is great. Have eaten there since I was a kid.

true.

i have known matt p. and his family for a while now and they do good stuff. also check out armand meats across the street - a great little deli that moved into that spot from chalmette after the storm.

also, if memory serves there was a solid little restaurant called jasmine in slidell.
