I'm buying in to the Monty plan and I'm not one of the ones mad we traded MT5, however I'm starting to think he is shaving points or has a deal worked out with popeyes to not score a 100 points. Belly had the hot hand last night and went 5-7 and 4-5 behind the 3pt line, but yet he saw the least amount of playing time out of all the starters. Did I miss something? Was there something said in the broadcast about Belly not playing? I don't get why Monty always puts the hot shooter on the bench.

Monty doesnt like scoring... his ideal game is Hornets win 10-5

Yes, foul trouble early and then he was unable to shake defenders that started paying very close attention to him after he got hot. I never really pay much attention to defense unless it's obviously bad or good, but the post game analyzers were saying he wasn't playing that well on defense. Also, the lane was wide arse open for penetration and that's how the Hornets won the game. Penetrating the lane is not one of Belinelli's strengths, Portland wasn't allowing him good looks after he got hot, and Willie Green ended up saving the day. Really nothing to complain about, in the end it looks like Monty picked the right guys at the right times. He even did a good job of picking Smith over Gray IMO.

We struggled the entire game with and without Belly in the game. We were up after Belly's first two 3's. We could have easily lost that game.

Did you watch the game? I can't tell from your comments if you did or not, but Portland locked him down after he went 4/5. He wasn't likely to score much after that. When he got pulled from the game for the last time, they had just tried to run something for him again and he just couldn't get free of his defender. As wide open as the lane was, sticking with Marco would have been the low percentage option.

I was at the game. TigerinATL your comments make sense and I do understand your point.

Luckly Green wasn't shooting like the rest of the team.

I'm not going to say that Monty is perfect, he definitely over used Willie Green until recently, but I think at least half of the complaints about his rotations are off base. He may not always be right about the match ups he sees, but I do think he does a lot of things based on match ups rather than stubbornness, impatience and personal grudges like many people here seem to think. Being on the take from Popeyes is an interesting theory though. We know he came cheap and he has a bunch of kids to feed.

TigerinATL is right. I was courtside and the Blazers tightened up on Belli big time. He wasn't getting the open looks and he missed a couple when he did. He did, however, hit a shot later in the game as I recall.
