What are the possible ramifications for LSU, especially if pay to play is as widespread as it appears to be?
NCAA can punish all of its big money making programs, can it? I think Auburn could be made an example of, and schools like LSU could just get a slap on the wrist.
quote:
Kremer voiceover: “McLover said it wasn’t until he attended an all-star camp at Louisiana State University that he realized how the game is played. A game of money and influence.”
McClover: “Somebody came to me, I don’t even know this person and he was like, ‘we would love for you to come to LSU and he gave me a handshake and it had five hundred dollars in there. … that’s called a money handshake … I grabbed it and I’m like, ‘wow,’ hell I thought ten dollars was a lot of money back then. Five hundred dollars for doing nothing but what I was blessed to do. I was happy.”
Kremer to McClover: “What did you say to the guy when he hands you five hundred dollars?”
McClover: “Thank you and I’m seriously thinking about coming to LSU.”

who is SOMEONE?
What was he "paid"to go to AU then if he didn't go to LSU? There is nothing to this. How "retroactive do you go. this guy has been in the NFL.
Move along

McClover was the Saban era and the statute of limitations is up anyway. I think Les runs a pretty tight ship; he jumped all over the McCarthy situation a couple years ago. We'll be fine.

the statue of limitations isn't absolute btw. if there is evidence if it being a persistent problem they can ignore statue of limitations. obviously this would be aimed more at auburn.

What a completely vague and incredible assertion. Some anonymous human being approached McClover and offered him 500 dollars to play at LSU? He can't identify this person and no one besides McClover can confirm that this event actually occurred? Moreover, McClover played at LSU's SEC West rival, Auburn, and now mysteriously implicates LSU in some illegal scheme that can never be corroborated? He also claims that Auburn paid him money to play, but even his own teammates don't believe him? He decides to come forth with these startling allegations at a time when his professional career has evaporated and he has no earning potential?

There are alumni of every school that buy meals and give players handshake money.
They do it because they are low-quality, insecure jock sniffers and they like to be able to have a high profile player on the speed dial.
LSU has em like every other school.

This. Now we know why Saban is such a good recruiter. Les runs it right making his .800 win % and national title impressive.

Are you implicating Saban?

This.
Personally, I think athletes should be paid, the existing rules are ridiculous. That said, it should be above board.

Yes the NCAA is going to drop the hammer on us because one guy said some mystery man gave him 500 bucks.

As long as we get to keep the $4 waters, which the concession stands are proud to announce on the signs that it is the best bang for your buck

I agree with you to a point but I don't want college football recruiting turning into a bidding war. I agree all the players should be paid like college football is a part time job for them but how do you make it even between all the schools? The smaller schools would have hell trying to pay all their players.

The problem with this is that the IRS and Congress are looking to tax big money college sports, paying players creates a tax drain we as fan have to pay for while bookkeeping becomes a problem and bidding wars for players services will escalate.

This. My BiL played for one of our rivals back in the day, and he's been quite open about giving current players 'twenty dollar handshakes', only there's more than a single twenty in it. I'd be shocked if it didn't happen at LSU or ANY school.
