National Championships are rare for any one team so it's not really a positive thing to go into a season looking for your team to win one. You're setting yourself up for bigger letdowns. Being positive about your team would be remaining open to all possibilities and standing behind your team no matter what. Just sayin

Thx for pushing the pic Angry LLama, lol. None of my friends got it. They either didn't know what it was, or asked why I made a PP7 design if he declared for the draft...

For me, I think seeing Lsu in a BCS bowl against a good team is enough for me. We were 11-2 last year, but there was a lot of close calls there. Doing that again would be great in my book. Of course I want the Tigers to win it all, but so many things can happen over the course of a season, it's just tough to say. What was Auburn ranked in the BS preseason polls last year? Like 19th?

ALL we need is a QB. Now we have one.

If Mett can surpass the worst QB in all of div 1, then we'll be elite. If not, another year of anemic offense and disappointment until he graduates.

I don't think the offense will be anemic this year, not with the upperclassmen we have. There are probably still gonna be a couple hiccups but the seasons of growing pains ought to be in the past for this group.

Dude really? Just be a fan and rest in the fact that we have a talented team. You want fans to make you feel better? We are LSU and we have a good team. Just be happy

8) NOLA BCS game- LSU could beat a potentially better team in the Dome. In this case, the home field does matter.

Yep. Three times in a row will be a charm. Not to be greedy, but after we hoist the crystal in NOLA for the third time in a row, I'm going to say that we will be in Miami doing it again in 2013. I can tell you that I really like this team.

As long as this team has the "want" to win, there is plenty enough talent, the schedule sets up right, and we have "The Hat"! Kick arse...

I never really understood this line of thinking. There were times I can clearly recall where I had no expectations of a National Championship, and it still sucked when we lost. I have never had the experience of feeling "better" after a loss because I already thought we sucked beforehand.

If it works for you, by all means go with it. But I would caution you to take care in counseling others based on your own particular experience. Others may have more fun anticipating the Championship and not experience the same letdown avoidance you do from lowered expectations.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I'm not talking about lowering expectations....I'm talking about NOT HAVING ANY expectations. There is a big difference there. I am a fan with little to no control over what a particular group of athletes can accomplish. I can only observe and support.

The bigger letdowns I was referring to are evident all across the fanbase. The Tigers lose and there is a meltdown on the boards and everyone begins to lose all ability to reason because they are so clouded by emotions. Too many fans are getting their feelings hurt because of their emotional investment, which is based on their original expectation.

I dont like watching LSU lose either....none of us do. I love watching them win, we all do. All i meant to do was bring a little awareness to a problem that occurs with a very high percentage of sports fans. Look at the posts on the rant on any given day...you will see many things like this: "Miles will stick with JJ even if we have a better QB" "Shep is a disappointment at this stage in his career" "Is Paul Manieri a one-hit wonder?" etc etc.

These types of responses show that the poster is not using logic because they have their feelings hurt. They have their feelings hurt because they feel let down by either the team, the coaches or both. They feel let down because they invested their emotions in the results of the team. This is called expectation. Now, people who are aware enough to make the distinction (you) can watch a season with national title anticipation and it won't really affect them. These people are a minority for sure though.

Too many fans will go into a season and say "I will be positive and predict 14-0!!" I am simply saying that it isn't really positive to project the most rare of results in CFB....especially if it is going to hurt your feelings and make you lash out when it doesn't happen. When a team is having a special season, you can feel it. I can remember feeling it in 03. I don't think any of us were thinking national championship. That feeling of a a great season is real. What isn't real is making some idea about how things should play out and expecting that to happen. That counts for the whole of life as well.
