Hard to pin down "the best". The opening scene from Inglorious Basterds is one of my favorites. D-Day scene from Saving Private Ryan is up there as well (if that can be considered one scene).

As far as entertaining goes I would say the training scene between Morpheus and Neo in the matrix.

All those are great. I'll add the opening scene to X-Men 2. Perhaps the most awesome scene ever for any action or comic book movie.

How about the scene in Apocalypse Now where they are cutting back and forth between the assassination of Kurtz and the slaughter of the ox? (Or water buffalo or whatever it was.)

That is the scene that came to my mind when I was reading your post. I've probably listened to the audio book version thirty times and while the movie sticks faithfully to the book Javier Bardem makes it come alive.

Since that is taken a scene I never get tired of:

I am huge fan of the closing scene in Field of Dreams where Ray and his dad are playing catch.

This isn't my favorite scene in a movie... but a scene that made a recent movie for me

The Hurt Locker when he's back stateside... and after all of the insanity he's looking around this immaculate well stocked grocery store in which everything is orderly, ordinary, and unchanged

To me that snapshot was intended to encapsulated the craziness of coming home from a war zone... to return stateside to an environment where they have no comprehension or even echo of teh existence of what he and the other soldiers had gone through

The Pacino and Deniro diner scene in Heat. There was no script for that and it was completely ad lib and filmed in one continuous take.

The Scene leading up to and through the final battle in The 13th Warrior.

The 13th Warrior

Both the movie and the book (Eaters of the Dead) are great, one of my top five all time movies.

How old are you guys, like ten? The oldest movies you've mentioned are The Godfathers.

How about the railroad yard in Gone with the Wind?

Any of a dozen scenes in Citizen Kane?

The Statue of Liberty chase in The Saboteur?

Nothing from Eisenstein? Really?

Y'all mention Friday Night Lights and The Lion King in this thread? Really?

Op has a great one. And I'll add basically any scene with Robert De niro in Godfather 2. But the opening sequence to Inglorious Basterds has to be my number one. Whatta way to start a movie.
