Has Gerry Lane done anything for LSU other than be a sponsor? It just seems wrong to have his name on this thing.

bud walton arena at arkansas is named after sam walton's brother .. i don't think wal mart has done "anything" more for the university of arkansas than be a "sponsor" .. donald w. reynolds stadium is named after the guy that handed arky a check for over $20 million to expand the stadium ... that's commonplace in college athletics .. what rock have you been living under ?

Definition of SPONSOR
: a person or an organization that pays for or plans and carries out a project or activity.

I dont think there are any other requirements except shell out the cash.

You have got to be kidding...

Possibly one of the dumbest things I've seen on here.

I don't mind having the thing named after him, but for him to have a bigger plaque on it than any of the championship teams is a bit ridiculous

Why don't you pony up and donate something big and then you can decide on the size of the plaque.

The Gerry Lane sign blocks the Alex Box Stadium sign. Way too big.

i never said he shouldn't have some kind of recognition.

It just doesn't feel right to have his name in front of Alex Box's just because he donated money to LSU.

Its cool that you don't agree with my opinion, just try not to be a sarcastic 2 year old girl about it

All that is missing are those little plastic pennant flags they usually hang out on used car sales lots ...

Football - Tiger Stadium
- Football Operations Center

Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics - Maravich Center, Known as the place Pete built, & named for LSU basketball great Pete Maravich
- Basketball Practice Facility

Baseball - Alex Box Stadium (LSU's baseball stadium was named in 1943 for Alex Box, an outfielder for the 1942 Tiger squad. Box was killed in 1943 while fighting in North Africa during World War II.)

Softball - Tiger Park

Track - Bernie Moore Stadium (The stadium was named in 1971 after the legendary head coach Bernie Moore, who guided the LSU track and field program for 18 years (1930-47) and led the Tigers to their first NCAA Championship in 1933, as well as 12 SEC crowns.)
- Maddox Field House (named in honor of late LSU Athletic Director Carl Maddox, an avid fan of track and field and a major force in building the Field House.

Soccer - LSU Soccer Complex

Tennis - W.T. 'Dub' Robinson Stadium (named in honor of former standout head coach W.T Robinson, a coach that elevated the LSU tennis program to national prominence.)

Golf - University Club

Swimming - LSU Natatorium

This isn't Arkansas. Putting a car salesman's name prominently on something like this, when he had absolutely nothing to do with those championships or even the program in general, seems to go against the norm for naming anything at LSU

Dude, your list sucks. All that you listed were performance venues. This thing isn't. I'm guessing he paid for it. Presumably, you'd be happier if it didn't exist.

That they are both maintained and operated by the Athletic Department and have corporate sponsorship tied to them?
