Looks like we're going to have another shut down #7 DB next year

Hopefully it can develop into a number that defensive players want (similar to the 18 on offense). Ali highsmith, PP, and TM.

A little generous to call him shut down, no?

You're being generous saying his comment is a little generous. Mathieu is a playmaker, ball hawk that destroys ball carriers. Lockdown corner though...not so much. I'm glad he got the # though. The kid is an absolute monster at the blitz and creating turnovers.

Nope. The kid is tough as nails. He's shorter than PP7, (some people think because of his height, he'll get burned on plays) I'll give you that but he's a beast in the secondary.

I can't wait to see what he's done when he leaves here in, at the earliest, 2 years!

Mathieu is not a shut down corner. He's a playmaker on defense. Fantastic tackler and great blitzer.

You're right. I'm being serious. He isn't a shutdown corner but a huge playmaker. I'll take that.

I love the fact that he gets in the opposing teams offensive schemes and just derails them.

So yeah, not a shutdown corner but definitely not someone I'd want my wide receivers going up against if I was an opposing coach.

This dude is incredible. I remember saying that freshman Laron Landry is going to be a great player. I'm thinking Mathieu had a much better freshman year. In the Cotton bowl he had a great diving pick. LSU will be known after the next few years as DB U. He can do it all, corner, nickel back whatever.

I agree with every word of this!

and this in particular:

Did anyone else notice that the only thing from him that is touching the ball are LITERALLY his fingertips! That's some hand strength.

So glad he's ours for the next 2 years, at least.

DB U is a stretch. We had PP7. Claiborne is solid and Mathieu is a player but neither are first rounders at the moment. I had high hopes for Loston but his instincts don't seem as good at this level. Reid might be better already.

Loston instincts? He has it when he is putting the huge hit on your arse. Did you see him horse coller that bama dude on the quick screen or the hit he put on Shep in the Under Armor game, how about the guy from Miss State that got knocked the frick out for the 2nd time on our kickoff return. I do agree he needs to work on his coverage but damn I haven't given up on him in no way. He is a big fast dude that likes to run stop.

Chevis Jackson
Corey Webster
LaRon Landry
Patrick Peterson
Mark Roman
Chad Jones
Randal Gay
Travis Daniels
Tory James
Ronnie Prude
Reid
Mathieu

Who else am I forgetting, lots. That equals DB U in my mind. I have always felt comfortable and confidant with LSUs DB over the last 10 years
