LSU Baseball - Through One Weekend

All things considered, I was very, very encouraged; makes this season preview almost not look too overconfident. We all knew the Tigers' hitting was going to be among the best in the country, but the bit that really surprised me was the pitching. It's no secret that LSU's staff is full of young guns, and the adjustment it takes to move from facing high school hitters to college hitters is more difficult than going from college to rookie league or single-A ball (at least the hitters use wooden bats in the pros). McCune looked incredible, and Gausman appears to have the stuff to allow us to forget about Zach Lee (at least as far as baseball is concerned). Regardless of how talented Wake Forest may actually be, LSU's young arms really impressed me this weekend. Hopefully it's a sign of nothing but more good things to come!

I don't think this is true, considering all the big bats we lost after last season in Dean, Landry, Gibbs, and Gaudet.

Yeah, we had Mahtook,Nola,Watkins and Hanover returning. Not sure anyone expected them to be the best in the country.

The all RH lineup will bite us once or twice. It's inevitable.

Yeah, that's kinda scary. But as long as the wind continues to blow out to left....

Good point; I guess I meant that the obvious strength of this team would come with its bats and not its arms. I still think there were lots of reasons to be confident in this lineup before the season began.

This is the one thing that has scared me as well. Lou Holtz...err, Grant Dozar is not the answer.

was that written today?

From my understanding (written by a guest author), most of it was written before the weekend, but the final edits were made after the games were played.

I know it was only one appearance but it was good to see the old Matty Ott from 2 years ago show up to get the big save Saturday. Faced the minimum 3 batters and got 2 K's. Not too bad!

What all pitches does Gausman throw?
Obviously fastball, but it looked like he relied on fastball alot? Might have been by design from coaches or I just couldn't tell on geauxzone.
Adams preview didn't mention pitches, just curious.
