No gas or electric. It really depends on how much you want to spend. You can spend $100 all the way up to 2K for non commercial stuff.

Why not electric? I've been thinking about getting one.

I have always liked the grill with the sidebox smoker. allows direct grilling as well as smoking and indirect grilling. killer on ribs.
as for the poster saying wrong board, kiss 79's arse

I have a ceramic Grill Dome smoker. It's one of my better purchases. I gave away my gas grill after about 6 months. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the well known ceramic smoker brands. It does everything well for me, high temp grilling and low and slow cooks. It has no problem holding a steady temp for 8 hours or longer.

I would stay away from electric. I have heard decent things with the gas ones. But a true smoker is hard to beat. I like pecan and hickory woods. The sky is the limit on smokers. You don't have to spend 2 k to get a good smoker but the better quality smoker you buy the easier it will be to cook on and maintain cooking temps. Gas will be the easiest to maintain cooking temps.

I'm kinda old skool, but I use a brinkman charcoal unit (looks like R2-D2)....I add mesquite chips when smoking fowl/poultry and hickory or pecan when smoking red meat....

it honestly is a bit of a pain in the arse to use and clean....but damn, it works so perfectly well that I just can't see changing anything...

Never thought I would pay that much for a grill but I agree 1000% worth every penny. The thing is a cooking machine!!!

No, I tend to smell like an ash tray afterwards.

Get a Brinkman upright charcoal smoker. It's less than $200 and with the water pan in there, it never leads to a dry result.

You can buy an $11 Boston Butt and turn it into one of the best things you've ever tasted. Just fill the bottom pan with charcoal and mesquite chunks, light, let the flame go out, put on the water pan, the meat and wait 7-10 hours. You may have to refill the water pan after 4 hours. Easy.

The ceramic smokers are worth the $.

I'd stay away from the Brinkman shite if you're serious at all. Loses a lot of smoke and the thin gauge metal is prone to rusting.

I have a Weber smoker that looks like R2D2. Weber Smoky Mountain or something like that. Wood with a water pan. Love it.
