Big East Tourney Hypothetical

Would the tournament be as big if moved around? You have at least 10 sites that have or can host NCAA tourney games.
Dunkin' Donut Center
Pittsburgh Civic
Wavhovia/Wells Fargo
Allstate
Carrier Dome
Tropicana
SunDome
MCI
KFC Yum
Bradley Center
I get the history of MSG, but I think if they moved it around some it would be even bigger tourney.

The biggest tournament for years was the ACC and it always moved around. That is why I think this tourney would explode if moved. I also think the SEC tourney got bigger when moved around, allows better access to more people.

Only if it was in a football-size dome. Those in the Big East footprint (in terms of states) are Syracuse, Indianapolis, Dallas, Houston, and Tampa.
I'd say bad idea based on those BIG EAST locations.

They have a new arena--the Consol Energy Center.

The ACC tourney was the model for all post season tourneys, it determined the sole entrant into NCAA. That's why the Big East won't ever be as big in terms of stature IMO as the old ACC tourney.

That might be somewhat relevant if it was still 1965.

seems like the sec has moved around a little recently, georgia dome, st. pete forum, nashville... they could have it in new orleans, little rock, and birmingham.

Huh? The BE tourney won't ever be as big as the old ACC tourney. No tourney is except the NCAA, because you can lose and still advance if in bcs conference tourney.

But it doesn't anymore so it's completely irrelevant. I'm not sure why you keep brining it up. It's 2011not the 1960s or 70's
Currently the Big East tourney is simply a far superior product to the ACC tourney. MSG is a big part of that

I'm amazed at the sheer brilliance of people not understanding the cycles of basketball,

I even more amazed at the idea's some people come up with.

The Big East tourney is in MSG, aka "The Mecca of Basketball". It doesn't get any better than that my friend. If it were to be moved and rotated, it would still do well in attendance, but a lot of history and tradition would be lost, and i think that would definately take something away from the experience.
Also, i have noticed that the ACC tourney fell on it's face after it moved from Greensboro to other locations. The ACC tourney needs to stay on Tobacco Road.

A combination of things has hurt the ACC tournament. They've tried moving it to Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa and DC, which were all terrible. It should stay in Greensboro unless the arena's roof caves in.
The expansion to 12 teams means fans from Boston College, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Miami get their own allotment of tickets, and none of them ever come.
From a competition standpoint, the league hasn't had 5 or 6 really good teams at the same time like it had in past decades, usually settling for 1 or 2. For example, in 1996 when Wake won it, the top 5 teams (GT, Wake, UNC, Duke, Maryland) all could've won it without anybody being surprised. It was a complete toss-up.
So yeah, the Big East has pulled away as the premiere conference tournament in recent years no doubt. I hope the ACC can rebound eventually, but I'm not holding my breath.

No. Moving it around won't make it bigger. It was huge back in the day when certain teams were national powers.

They don't need to come if it's in Greensboro. Place will be packed with Duke/NC/NC State/Wake fans regardless of who's playing.
As far as the OP.... the only other place I would like it to be played is the Carrier Dome, but I don't think it would be as great. MSG and the BE Tournament just go hand in hand, IMO.
