ya, and stretching it out to 21 months made it seem like just a "bash mike" post
Wait, what? By over estimating Mikes undefeated title reign you think im bashing him? I thought the reign lasted 5-6 years after Cus' death. You corrected me that it was shorter than and I acknowledged it. I just don't see how that's a Mike bash.
I have no reason to bash mike. My agreement with other posters that Frazier would beat him isn't bashing him. Neither is my opinion on what caused his in ring slide.

quote:You guys have Tyson confused with Kimbo Slice.
I don't think he has a signature win in his career.
Tyson was very legit. He started beating lower level opponents, and then gradually upgraded.
He nearly killed Razor Ruddock. . .twice.
He beat Mike Spinks in under 2 minutes. People saying Spinks was not legit are fricking retarded. Just because Tysone fricking destroyed him, does not mean he is less legit. . .it just means that Tyson was THAT MUCH BETTER.
In his Prime, nobody beats Tyson.
Nobody.
I will also point out that I am old enough to have seen Frazier fight. Frazier is the reason I think Ali is a complete sack of pig shite.
I like Frazier, and he would not have been intimidated by Tyson one bit. . .but it wouldn't matter.
Tyson was as strong as anyone, and he was blazing fast.

This is the answer about Tyson. He let him go just before the Douglas fight and was NEVER the same.

Tyson had so much shite going on. . .Tyson could have been fighting Bob Sagat and lost.

He was great in his PRIME, But WE are talking JOE Frazier!!
But Frazier was great in his day. Frazier is in my top ten all time.

Had he not gone to prison, he was lined up to fight Holyfield.
But he fought some great fighters. People saying he fought nobody are fricking retarded.
Spinks was a great fighter.

You are Talking PRIME???????? Frazier would have worn him OUT. Tyson would NOT have done to JOE like he did to Spinks and the others. Tyson was a get it done QUICK guy. There is NO WAY he does this to JOE.

You want to blame Tyson for not having an Ali?

Frazier would have worn him OUT.
Frazier never fought anyone even close to Tyson. They were both brawlers, though.
Would go to round 3-5.
Tyson wins in a knockout.

Spinks.
Those two are definitely "of note".

ALI beat the shite out of him in 3 15 round fights!!! You need to do some research.

It's exaggerations like these that have caused the backlash against Tyson in regards to his place in boxing history.
I would actually slightly favor Tyson against Frazier. But nobody?
There are lots of bigger heavyweights out there would have given Mike fits:
Foreman
Ali
Vitali
Lennox Lewis (even in Mike's prime)
Holmes (in his prime, not the version Mike fought)
You could make a case for someone like Bowe. Holyfield maybe.

I think that Tyson has gone from slightly overrated to vastly underrated, although it's his fault.
People use too many cliches when talking about Mike Tyson. "If you fight back, he'll fold" or "he didn't fight anyone when he was young". Those arguments are lazy and pretty dumb. When Mike was with Cus, he was the most technicly sound boxer EVER. He wasn't just some brawler back then like he ended up being years later. He was great. I'm not saying that Cus was the greatest trainer whoever lived, and Im not saying he was the #1 reason Tyson was great, but for whatever reason, Tyson loved and respected him more than anyone that he's ever had in his life. After Cus died and when Don King came into the picture, you saw changes in Tyson's attitude and eventually in the ring. He lost his discipline.
Still, for those years that he was focused on fighting he was great, maybe the greatest ever. I know it's not the poetic thing to say, but it's true. No one was going to stop him during those years.

When they rate Louis, they're not talking about the Louis that fought Marciano, are they? It's the same thing. If you think Tyson in his prime is the greatest heavyweight ever, that's up to you. But you're going to have to face the fact that just about everybody with an informed opinion disagrees strongly with you.
They are looking at Tyson's career.

Spinks was no Ali. . .but he was a great fighter.
