The New Orleans king cake challenge has me down. Where do you get good king cakes in Houston? Here's what I've tried:
1. Central Market -- no good. Dry, flavorless. Too bready. (grade d).
2. Moeller's Bakery -- surprisingly good. moist, excellent cinnamon flavor (sort of has bite). I give it an A- because there was something slightly off about the icing.
What else you got?

Just like good boiled seafood in houston, it doesn't exist.

Best place I've found is HEB. Haven't found a bakery on the far northside that has anything good.
Anyone?

Homemade is the way to go. It's really not difficult. Especially if you're a fan of the classic King cake that's not swimming in cream cheese and icing.

Yes I've had them many times. I'm from the Beaumont area. They make a quality product.

Picked one up at Rao's this afternoon. Best one I've had in Houston. I'll be going there from now on.
