He's the real deal. I like this man's approach to offense. LSU should be a very exciting team to watch on all sides of the ball next year.

I like how he says him and Miles are on the same page, he wants to establish a power running game with quick strike and downfield passing. I really don't think Miles and Crowton were on the same page and I really believe that led to the communication breakdowns we've seen.

Seems like a no personality type coach. Very business like.

Question is if he can fire up the offense and if he is a decent recruiter?

Said to be a very good recruiter

and per his interview, he will leave most of the motivating under the leadership of Miles

The phrase "promoted to the point of incompetence" comes to mind when watching this. Basically, people do one job well, so they keep getting promoted until they are out of their league.

After watching this, its obvious Krag is extremely competent when it comes to managing an offense. Could be that the pressure of the bigger head coaching job at UL was just too much for him at that point in his career.

He seems relieved that he no longer has to deal with all of the crap a head coach must handle.

as skeptical as I was upfront, this interview literally blew me away.

It's one of two things.

Either Krag has been reading the rant for the past 6 months, and addressed every issue we had with his press conference to shut us up....

Or, the much more likely choice, this guy was being genuine. He took real questions and gave real answers. Our defense is going to be SOOO much better with an offense than runs more than 58 plays with 27 min TOP.

This dude is legit. Things happen for a reason, Crowton stayed another year because in the end we needed to get Kragthorpe. Les Miles knows what the hell he is doing and very soon we will see the results we have been looking for ala the defense. For some reason it takes a lot longer than a lot of us unknowing rantards would like to make changes, but he does get them done. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes with regards to the decision process for these changes, but I guess it was not the easy, hence our continued issues until now.

For the first time in a few years I am RIDICULOUSLY excited about LSU football. I feel like my youthful enthusiasm for it has returned and the stress I used to feel for it have dissipated because it finally looks like our ship is sailing in the right direction and will be clicking on all cylinders this year.

I'll never say that Crowton doesn't know football or that he isn't a good coach. You don't get to where he is by being incompetent.

That being said, SH just seems like a much better fit with this staff, and LSU in general. I never really thought of Crowton as an LSU kind of coach.

When SK was hired, I was cautiously optimistic. This press conference added to the optimism and took away a little of the caution, but I still want to wait and see results on the field.

It is funny...

I think that's the most encouraging thing from the whole PC... Kragthorpe sees the obvious problems with the offense that we all see.

His knowledge flexing (throwing out coaches he's worked under, specific schemes he's worked with), and his insistence upon doing and sticking with what works really stood out to me.

I think he's hungry to right his reputation, as well.

This wasn't the sexy hire a lot of people wanted, but I think it will end up being a sneaky good one. Fairly obvious this was the guy Les wanted all along, and maybe Gary was kept around for last year because Les was aware of Kragthorpe's wife's health condition and didn't want to risk the potential of having him and losing him... we will likely never know...

I was lukewarm about the hire, but everything I've seen since has me very optimistic.

Timing is everything. We now have the best OC and DC in the business and a Head Coach who let's the players go for the win every game.

As an army vet, and I was over there in the sand too, I took zero offense to that statement. As a matter of fact, it was my favorite

Just makes zero sense to me. To me, that quote says you have seniority in the Army regardless of if you're good or not. And if you are really good, it doesn't mean you move up. And that's false. If you're the best in the Army, you move up quickly. That's why it's a stupid quote.

time in grade/whatever is the #1 factor in military promotions in all branches 99% of the time. the guys who move up insanely fast are the exception to the rule.

Good presser.

quote:

"I think the biggest thing in offensive football is you want to have enough variety that you can attack the defense. You want to have enough variety of schemes and plays that you can feel like going into a game and playing throughout the game, you're in a position where you can attack the weaknesses of the defense and any defensive weaknesses you might see as that game progresses. Yet, by the same token, you can't have so much volume that you can't be good at practicing all those plays. We don't want to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. Certainly we want to have enough variety where we can put the ball in the guy's hands that can make plays for us, give the quarterback a lot of answers in the running game in terms of run audibles and those things, and yet, by the same token, we only have so many hours and so many practice repetitions that we have, we want to be good and not what I call 'hang your hat on them' plays where we can have a base offense, a staple offense and then wrinkle off of those things. The thing we do offensively is we teach concepts -- passing game concepts, running game concepts -- and then we'll wrinkle off those from week to week or as we're going through spring practice, from day to day and teach those."

This speaks volumes. At times it seemed that GC's approach confused our offense more than the defense.

I'm getting excited about this year's team. How many days until kickoff?
