I have a Ruger Bolt action with synthetic stock and I love it. I also really like the Savages. Lots of my buddies have those. I have the 17Mach2 in the savage and really like it.

I have a Savage 17 and it's a great gun for dispatching vermin and such. I bought the stainless version with the heavy barrel for around $300 a couple years ago.

+1. My boss won it in a DU raffle and sold it to me for $100 and I have really enjoyed it. Rolled quite a few 'dillos with it this year.

I've got the Savage SS with the Monte Carlo stock with a Nikon 3 x 9 50mm on it. Love it.. But last year I bought a rem vtr 22-250 Varmint-Tactical Rifle. The balance on this rifle is amazing. Haven't took the 17hmr out of the closet sense I bought the 22-250.

Savage Stainless with bull barrel. Head shoot nutria @ 200 yards with no compensation. It's dead on @ 75-225yds. Killed numerous hogs including one over 250lbs. Right behind the ear & it's lights out. Shoot the Hornady hollow points. Don't buy the Mach 2. Few friends bought those & are disappointed. Stick with the hmr.

Had the savage and it was great except the trigger. Get the accu trigger or a drop in replacement if you go that route. Amazing accuracy just don't try to shoot squirrel with them.

One of the first times I've seen multiple folks recommend a Savage firearm over others. Hmmm..

the savages are the best value on the market and then some.

esp. with accu trigger...

my son has head shots on squirrels with his at 100 yards... but he is a ridiculous shooter and shoots a lot more than most folks by a long shot.

Impressive, but hard to believe, IMHO.

I have a Remington Model 597 Magnum with a Simmons 3.5 x 10 x 50 pro 50 plus scope and articulating bipod. Very accurate setup.

If you are thinking about getting one for squirrel hunting, make sure you shoot them in the head.

I believe you especially if he puts in the trigger time.

I don't hunt with it but maybe twice a year and I can wear their asses out from 75 yards out. The bipod I have mounted don't hurt either.

I guess I've got to see it/do it myself (and trying to get a head shot at that distance) to believe. I'm not hatin' and I ain't mad.

Savage SS bull barrel accutrigger 4-12x40 scope

The gun is crazy accurate. I have every confidence that I could hit a fly in the arse at 100yds with a good rest.

I shot a .22 metal target with it at 100 yds and it damn near punch through. It's either 3/16 inch or 1/4 inch steel plate.

The only thing that I don't like about the gun is the stock. The grip on the stock is not comfortable at all when you its over your shoulder on the sling.
