I'll eat crow and admit I guessed wrong.
Les Miles got the go signal from Alleva to become Cholly Mac 2.0 and passed on his dream job as Bo Schembechler 2.0.
Hope Alleva knows that his own job security is now tied directly to Miles' perceived success.
Personally, I like Les and I liked him just as much at the end of the 2008 and 2009 seasons as I do now. If you'd told me in 1994 back when we struggled to get 60k fans in the seats that LSU would put a coach on the hot seat after going 8-5 and 9-4 I would have laughed my arse off. Back then, LSU fans were desperate just to have a winning season. Now they go apeshit if we don't win at least 10 games and go to Atlanta.
I thought the shot across the bow by Alleva in Jan 2010 was a pretty dick move. Apparently, Miles took notice of Alleva's dick move and used it as leverage to say "After 6 years and 4 10+ win seasons, can I get a little more job security and a confirmation that the administration will be patient with me if we stumble again one or two years in a row?"
Based on the WWL report this morning, looks like Les was just looking for a vote of confidence and patience from LSU and isn't the vindictive, vengeful mofo I would be if I were in his shoes.
If it was me I would have told Alleva to GTFO and punched my ticket to Michigan. Kudos to Miles for keeping his composure and playing his hand well.
If Miles has shown us anything, it's that he can weather a shitstorm of criticism and come out smelling like a rose. Dude just keeps on keeping on. Love him or hate him, he sticks to his gameplan and more often than not comes out on top.
Cholly Mac 2.0 it is. Don't like it? Vent to Alleva:

Bama fan here. And a Southerner, also.
I hate the Big 10. All those arrogant pricks up in Yankee land always think they are better than us, but just look at what states are losing population.
So, if we can get a Southern school to tell a Yankee school to go find your own coach, fine with me.

Whether you're pleased with Miles or not, we can unite in our hope that ESPN will once and for all STFU regarding LSU coaching decisions.

Go job in keeping us so informed ESPN. Your credibility is solid as shite.
Geaux Miles. Bring in that next great recruiting class. Then bring in that No. 3 Crystal Ball.

This is another reason we need another 24/7 sports network.. Something to counter the ESPN garbage and their missions.

You want to get a room with him, don't you?

He ought to get a contract extension. I am not so sure about a raise.

I openly applaud those of you that are sticking to your guns and still illogically want him gone. Here is to your stupidity.
For those of us celebrating the continued tenure of a working man's man, salt of the earth, character driven, player loved Head Coach who just happens to have a fantastic record, here's to you:

Alrighty then.
Explain how Alleva's job security isn't tied to Miles if he sticks with Miles through thick and thin and refuses to fire him if Miles has 2 or more "nice" or "not so nice" seasons.
Miles served notice to Alleva this week that he would only stay at LSU if he got some assurance that the AD would be patient with him in the future and not put him on the hot seat again like he did at the conclusion of the 2009 season.
From WWL:
quote:
A source close to the LSU program and a friend of Miles has told me the mad hatter is not looking to leave Baton Rouge. But he would like to see a commitment from the administration that he's not going to be fired after an eight win season.
LSU did not roll over his contract or extend his deal after LSU won eight and nine games after the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In fact after the 2009 season, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva called the 2009 campaign a "nice season," but wanted more from the program.
Miles would be the first to admit LSU should play for championships every year, but if the Tigers come up short of that goal, he would like to see the administration stand behind him, instead of giving him a luke warm grade.
After 6 years at LSU, Miles essentially said if he wanted to be on the hot seat he'd rather be on the hot seat at his alma mater. He felt after 6 years at LSU, the AD owed him a little more patience and a better vote of confidence than what he'd received so far.
Sure, some of this is specualation on my part, but Alleva and Miles are now tied together.
Tell me why Alleva isn't tied with Miles now.
I'll shut up and listen.

No leaks out of the Mich ath. dept.but media speculation mentions Gruden (who hasn't publicly said he isn't interested, like he did with Miami)....my non-Miles/Hoke choice would be Pinkel from Mizzu,he runs same offense, was successful at Toledo and has won a lot at Mizzu with less talent than Okla/Texas and can recruit the state of Ohio which is a major key for us at Mich

Thank God. Now I can stop checking my phone during jury selection. I've already been yelled at by the bailiff twice.
