I'd be a little sorry to see him go, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Basically, he's slightly better at recruiting than he is at fricking up. Makes for a very good coach, but he is 100% incapable of going undefeated, regardless of overwhelming talent.

If Miles leaves, I would take even money all day that his replacement has a worse record and less hardware the next 5 years. I boggles the mind how badly some people misunderstand the process and consequences of replacing a coach. Does anyone here remember UF Athletics Director Jeremy Foley's first hire of a Head Football coach? This was a guy that is among the best in the nation at hiring coaches, filling the head spot at what was at the time one of the top 3 or 4 programs in the country. And we saw how that hire worked out. Then there's Notre Dame's Weiss fiasco, Bama's decade-long Who's Who list of coaches between Stallings and Saban, our own attempts at replacing Arnsparger, Ole Miss' sitcom-esque debacle after ousting Cutcliffe, Tennessee's detour into Kiffykin's World . . . and the list goes on; specifically, it goes on much longer than the list of hires like Saban replacing DiNardo, or Miles replacing Saban, or Meyer replacing Zook, etc.

Anytime there is less than a 50% chance that you will have a replacement that is more successful than the guy you have now, replacing the coach is a bad idea. Take a look around at the number of coaches that have had more success in the last 6 years than Les Miles, and the number of coaches who haven't; then ask yourself if the chances are really better than 50/50. And if your answer is yes, never ever ask yourself anything important, and never trust yourself with any decisions of consequence.

You are giving the malcontents wayyyyyyyyyy more power than they have if you think Miles will base any decision off the rants of Joe "Coach" Fan.

The LSU football coach who wins is the King of the LSU campus and no LSU coach in modern history has done a better job of winning than Miles.

I can pretty much tell you that anyone Miles comes into contact with on that campus is going to be highly respectful and the same goes for BR.

Miles has experienced many, many more positive reactions over his 6 years than disrespectful ones while functioning as the LSU HC.

Miles might leave, but I seriously doubt it will have anything to do with some boos from coming from the stands or anything else that has to do with his treatment at LSU.

He's just the type of coach that can't keep his team focused and playing at a high level. He's the kind that wins 1 SEC title in 6 years with the most talent LSU has ever had. And everything is cyclical, so who knows when we'll have that kind of talent again.

It is amazing the type of senarios that people make up in their head to detract from Miles. "His teams don't play at a high level."
"LSU has the most talent it's ever had before."
"He can't keep his teams focused" (nevermind that his teams seem to be the MOST focused come bowl season than almost any other team out there. That includes Saban coached teams.

Outstanding post...one of the best, most sensible ones I have ever seen on this board.

Anyone who thinks we would just walk out on the street and happen along a guy who is a shoe-in to win more games than Miles the next 5 years is delusional.

Wall Street Journal. Chicken was in it, he can vouch. Just one of several hundred thousand articles.

Like I said, outside of media bullshite, was Miles ever on the hot seat? No, he wasn't.

No, Miles wins. He is a well known sports personality & made LSU lots of money.

Exactly. So you all need to stop saying Miles is or has been on the hot seat, because he hasn't been.

Also if he goes to Michigan and fails at reviving that program it could be a career killer for him coaching at major colleges

Rather - IF he goes to Michigan and 4 - 5 years from now he's not been successful he will RETIRE with > $25MM in the BANK.

I'd love to have my career KILLED that way. just sayin'

Les Miles loves his alma mater, but he loves himself more. He has a better shot of winning a national title at LSU, and that's why he stays.

I know Miles has his moments at the Mike but I have begun to just laugh at his "speak"
I hope he stays for several reasons
1. He is a good recruiter. I might be accused of being naive but i think the guy really cares about his players.
2. After all is said and done its the won loss
column that counts. and his record speaks for itself.
3. I think we are poised for great success based on the talent at hand for at least the next two seaons.
4. No gurantee that whoever we got to replace him would do any better and might not even do as well. Lot of untangeables in picking coaches. Look a Jerry and the cowboys.
5. Unfortunately in our SEC most every team thinks they should go undefeated every year. Fla.
Bama Aburn LSU Obviously it just not possible.
some body got to lose so that somebody else can win. and do coach that looses is in the hot seat.

Ok now it time for everyone to disagree and tell me what a dope i am for writing this.

Go Tigers!

I do not believe that this man will leave over a few stupid people that boo him and do not like him. He only has to please the people at LSU and I believe they love him for what he has done at LSU. Stay Miles and fsxk the bahesfs.....

I think we all agree that Miles is a great coach, but taking over an SEC program that had been left strong via Saban, and taking over a dead program like Mich are two diff. things. He wouldn't have been successful here had we been in the same position that UM is now. I do think that he'd be killing his career if he goes to M. With or without the support of the boosters, he'd quickly turn into the next RichRod.

Trust me, he is aware of where he stands in the minds of a good portion of the fans.
According to Miles himself and I quote "I don't pay attention to things on the perimeter". Now besides that sounding patently stupid by calling the fanbase "the perimeter", the posi-tigers on here claim that our Rants have absolutely no effect on anything. So your theory was just shot to hell.

Are you kidding? If we had lost that Tennesse this year, there would have been civil unrest if he hadn't been fired immediately following the game.
Exactly, all of Miles foibles are conveniently erased with one win. It's the nature of fandom. Never mind the inherent systemic problems that keep arising time after time with Les coached teams, that don't get fixed. We have to learn to live with them, I guess, because it looks like he's staying, but to pretend that he doesn't have major issues as a head coach because he pulls a game out of his arse here and there is just folly. If he gets rid of Crowton, that is a major improvement however.

It'll be much easier. Even though they would never agree with it, their expectations are much lower and their knowledge of the game is very much lower. For example, they've watched us play all year long and have an excuse for every mental mistake that Miles has been involved in. They think we're crazy for not loving the guy and we think they're equally as crazy for not understanding football and LSU's expectations for a coach and staff making millions.
