Do Macs not have VGA outputs on them? Most of the new TVs I have seen all have VGA inputs on them.

Ah, did not know that. I'll file that away in case I ever have need to hook a Mac up to an LCD projector for a business function.

Don't know much about Mac's, well anything, but on my PC all I have to do is plug in an HDMI cable and I'm good to go.

Go to the Apple store if you want to pay way too much for what you need. Otherwise, go to Radio Shack.

Is this true of HDMI as well? I'm almost strictly a PC person (since that's all we have at work for me to fix and that's all 99.9% of the folks that ask me to fix their computers have).

Whatever you do, don't ask any of the Jersey Shore wannabes working at Best Buy. They'll be happy to set you up with an $80 hdmi cable that doesn't work with your computer.
