This isn't about bashing who we took and who we didn't. Far from it. It was just an interesting fact. It is hilarious how you keyboard warriors overreact at anything, even when it's not meant to be anything. I am sure all of you would have went ape shite mad if we had taken DJ anyway. However, those of you arguing that he wouldn't see the field at LSU are mistaken. Some of the top receivers in the league came from "subpar conferences" ie colston, vjax, moss, marshall, deion branch, lance moore, miles austin, roddy white etc...

You could say that he & another Destrehan player, Jericho Nelson at Ark. have been much better than Molton & JJ.

Look Damaris, I understand you would've rather come to LSU instead of playing for some shitty team like Tulsa, but taking it out on a message board isn't going to get you anywhere.

grades and other issues could have a little to do with that.

quote:

Marshall played both offense and defense, as he earned All-State honors and was named Seminole County Utility Player of the Year. He also lettered in basketball and track three times. As a senior, Marshall won the Class 3A state triple jump championship, landing a jump of 48-feet, six-and-three-quarter inches

Sounds like he had the talent to play at alot of places, grades?

quote:

Moss' dream was to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish[7], but he also considered going to Ohio State, where his half-brother, Eric, had played offensive tackle. Former Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz said "Randy Moss was the best high school football player I've ever seen."[8] Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden said "He was as good as Deion Sanders. Deion's my measuring stick for athletic ability, and this kid was just a bigger Deion."[5]
After originally signing a letter of intent to play college football with Notre Dame in 1995, Moss took part in a racially-charged fight at his high school that left one person hospitalized. Notre Dame subsequently denied his enrollment application, but this did not stop another high-profile college football program from giving him a chance. Notre Dame officials suggested he attend Florida State due to the reputation of its coach, Bobby Bowden, for handling troubled players.[9] However, because of his signed letter of intent at Notre Dame, the NCAA considered him a transfer student, which made him ineligible to play for the Seminoles in the 1995 football season

Randy Moss was majorly recruited, wtf is his name doing in that list?

quote:

White attended James Island High School (now James Island Charter High School) in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a four-sport letterman and standout in football, baseball, soccer, and wrestling. In football, he was a two-time All-Low Country honoree, a two-time All-State honoree, and was also listed as one of the top receivers in the nation on Rivals.com. In wrestling, he was a two-time state champion often pinning his opponent in a move that was coined the "Shanaz".

Roddy White was highly recruited, but did he have the grades? NO

quote:

Lance Moore attended Westerville South High School (Ohio) and set state high school records for receptions (103) and touchdown catches (24) during his senior year.

Lance moore broke high school records and ended up at toledo??? How many records did Damaris break?

quote:

Colston received a scholarship to the Division I-A Missouri but turned the offer down in favor of Division I-AA Hofstra.[1]

You are comparing a middle of the pack wr at tulsa who just happens to be a great punt/kickoff returner to nfl stars? Lay off the kool-aid son!

You may have a somewhat valid point, but your delivery method is just a bit flawed.

GeauxLSUGeaux, your arguments are flawed.

First of all, DJ was the leading receiver in Destrehan history, a school that has produced many DI major prospects.

Second, if you are going to get information from wikipedia which is not cited, then i don't give any credence to the information you posted.

Third, if you are going to state a 50+ catches, 800+ yard WR as middle of the pack than I guess you have really high expectations. And if you are saying he is the middle of the pack receiver on his team, I guess top of his team in catches and yards doesn't account for much.

Furthermore, if you are going to go down every player i listed, there is also greg jennings, johnny knox, davon bess, anthony armstrong, malcolm floyd, austin collie, james jones and nate washington all top 50 WRs in yards this year in the NFL.

First off, good for the dude he is doing so well. That's the most important thing. I hope he has a great career in the NFL. No ill feelings towards him.

Second of all, randy moss and roddyy white were very highly recruited, and lance moore did break state records and colston did have an offer to play at mizzu. School records mean very little and the first list u had only vjax being on the had some merit.

Lastly, why waste ur time? I'm starting to ask myself the same question. It's not like we should feel bad about not getting him, its not as bad as whenever we lost colt mccoy for Ryan P. You say he would be contributing right now but honestly he might not have done too much here. There is just this sense that u know him or maybe u are him, whatever then good for you. Stop trying to get people on here to agree with you and just be happy he is doing well.

Usually cause I don't have the time or interest in doing so. On topics of interest like this, I generally just throw it out there and run with it.

The kid was 5'8 and neither the SEC nor LSU has a rich histroy of doing much with 5'8 WRs.

I saw the kid the play in the dome and can assure you the LSU staff was fully aware of him and passed. They did consider him for a schollie but went another way. You can argue that it maybe was a mistake to pass on him but you can't claim that LSU didn't even consider him.

Damaris Johnson was a 4* recruit who was recruited hard by TCU and others but opted for Tulsa. Smart move by him as he's really blossomed there.

There are so many cyber bad asses on this board its ridiculous,.....saminex wasn't putting anybody down or calling out LSU or claiming that we screwed up.
He was simply pointing out another great producer who flew somewhat under the radar and has done exceptionally well when given the chance. You can't guess correctly on these types of guys all the time, but I don't think he was saying we should have. He was simply pointing out an interesting fact on a kid from our own backyard.
Another kid like that was Mewelde Moore who has turned out to be a good pro, great baseball player too, outta Baton Rouge.
You bad asses need to chill out, so much hate

Thats not all he was saying, go read the opening post. He was bashing recruitniks and flaming LSU and the LSU signees from the HS team...

How was I flaming the signees? I brought up JJ and I said Tim Molton disappeared, which he did.

Second, I don't even know what bashing a recruitnik means. We did not give him a look, and I never flamed LSU. It seems like you just piece random words together.

Finally, I feel like he would benefit the team and we probably made a mistake in not taking him, but hindsight is 20/20 and I probably wouldn't have been happy if we didn't offer him a ship. Just shows how much we as posters know about recruiting.
