The two dogs at my stand were pit bull and cur. Prolly somebodies hog dogs that got lost. Neither had a collar. Does that make them wild. I have curs and they have hunters orange collers with name tags

Ha, all this being said, I've never actually killed one, though I've tried. My take on it, is if he runs faster away from you when you whistle, he's probably "wild enough".

At what point does a dog become"wild" enough to shoot?
After the second time the owner was told to keep it on his/her property and excluding extenuating circumstances (neighbor kids letting them out of the yard, dog jumping out of fence or digging under, ect.)

Dog shooters or people who dump dogs/puppies, whats worse?

I can't believe you guys see that many dogs where you hunt. I only hunt it Texas and I have never seen a dog out in the woods. I would never shoot a dog unless it looks like I would be doing it a favor, anything else might be someones dog and I know how I would react if someone killed my dog.

people who dump dogs are way worse

So if a dog owner isnt responsible enough to know where their dog is (disturbing my hunting) after beign told they need to control their dog, do you really think they have any more beef with me for shooting than they do with Mac truck for hitting it when it was crossing the road to get on my lease?
ETA in 5 years I have seen 3 dogs on the lease. One that was wild during the summer that we tried for 3 weeks to catch until we finally shot him just before deer season. The other two are the reccuring rots taht I have 6 different pics on different days all around midnight during rifle season. None of the neighbors are claiming the rots.
We have had more problems with cats being dropped off but they dont seem to bother the game and the coyotes or hawks usually take them out in the fall.

I am aware of a case of a guy being on a stand on a propery line.... and shooting a bird dog(english pointer) that was about 100 feet on the other side of the property line.....
the owner of the dog.... won that battle.

This debate has been going on for many years. I can recite the pros and cons.
Anybody that has ever shot a bird dog will go to hell. end of story!
