Studs don't play legion after senior year in Nola thanks to old rummel coach before baudry

Yeah, I wondered why Joe kept playing for Ponstein's. I guess it's because LSU wasn't looking at him as a pitcher like they were Matty.

Also, no one at LSU knew who Matty was before his junior year.

I have 10 girls on my team and coaches know who they are and have seen them going to these tournaments and clinics

That is false

Broussard was homeschooled before hc and was highly touted before first game at hc

Think his soph yr was his first

I'm pretty sure there was talk by scouts about drafting Joe at the end of his sophomore year. He definitely was "recognized".

Ott played knights with the guy now at tulane after sr yr

Broussard pitched his arse off for Nola boosters in wood bat aaaba league after legion

I wouldn't count Broussard out at pitcher at Lsu

No offense but it's softball. It's a little different scouting baseball players. Travel teams are fine for what they are but college coaches and scouts aren't scouring the 14yr old playing fields.

IF you have a desire to play college ball and you wait till your jr. or senior year to get your name out you will be disappointed.

So is baseball that much harder to scout than football?

I have seen many athletes come on in just their senior year in football to get great D-1 offers.

physical maturity is huge in football. Much more so than baseball

how is it different? you dont think college baseball coaches are at 14u travel ball tournaments looking? you are sadly misinformed on that.

I know for a fact that Matty Ott and Joe Broussard just played regular old school ball @ Holy Cross and neither of them were noticed until their junior years.

I am by no means a coach, but even I can tell if a kid can swing and throw with good velocity and technique.

After that, it is just about refining those techniques, right?

yeah and to answer your question, you can see a lot of these things at an earlier age before a kid has hit physical maturity.

Football scouting/recruiting is based a lot more on physical characteristics.

more or less yeah.

And the problem... particularly in Baton Rouge... is that this attitude is ruining "casual" baseball in order to over-serve the allegedly "elite" players in the sport.

not so fast.... a certain new park in BR did more to kill the two predominant leagues in BR YBBR and AM Legion at drillers than travel ball did.

ybbr was a good buffer for high level league play and moderate travell.. the rec type leagues at drillers filled their niche nicely.

combining two league type teams does not make them travel ball teams...

That's not what I was talking about. I misunderstood really. That one cat said college coaches would rather look at travel teams than school teams and that's simply not true.

Maybe high school coaches.....

eta: I will say I'm glad I have girls that are dancers. The traveling team shite is completely out of control. The coaches are the worst part about the whole deal and they treat every game like it's game 3 in Omaha. No 11 year old should have that much pressure on him in a single baseball game in Rayne, La. in May. (tounge-in-cheek)
