Can't speak for all coaches but my group isn't like that after each game the team meets points out the good and bad and work to improve the next game. U have to stay positive especially with girls.

neville, you coach 16yr old chicks brah. You better never raise your voice to that team.

And choup, I'm sure your kid's coach is the best ever but I've umped some travel team games in Kenner and I quit that shite two years ago. I couldn't believe I was wanting to spend my weekends getting shite talked to me by some 22yr old coach in the fricking parking lot AFTER a game while I was taking off my equipment. All because his kid has shitty patience at the plate and couldn't lay off the curve-ball in the dirt. I rang his kid up after he spun completely around but his coach tried to argue with me that he didn't break his wrists. I simply reminded him that his wrists are part of the bat and the barrel passed the plate...... TWICE. That was my last game.

Your situation is different neville. There isn't as much exposure for the girls I guess. Not to mention that baseball travel teams stop at 14 I think. You have girls that are a year away from college.

I don't remember where they were from. I just remember that this kid/coach was arguing balls and strikes all day long. The kid pitching for them would throw his hand and huff and puff every time I called a ball. It was quite comical. All I remember is they wore black & blue uniforms.

Thank you for being a voice of reason in this thread. I think any kid who is serious about baseball needs to be on a club team. Maybe not at 9....but by 11 or 12 for sure.

agree with the age 11-12 thing for the most part. Again if a kid has an unbelievable work ethic, he can do it on his own, but typically the best route is by being around other kids who force you to work harder. Plus better coaching.

actually girls travel ball took off before the boys. Ive seen college coaches around the younger tournaments for quite a few years. there are a lot more girls travel tournaments than there are boys btw

more scholarships per team = greater recruiting....

college baseball coaches competing for same players as pro ball with fewer bullets in their guns.

we have had a great experience with travel baseball and probably would have had just as good a time playing with classmates in league play. Unfortunately, in Baton Rouge, you have to make the decision of which way you want to go pretty quickly. Travel ball takes a family committment but if the family wants to do it, what is the problem. If the family cannot commit to weekend play, then they must play weekday baseball and rush togames once or twice a week after work.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. It depends on the family. There are plaenty of AA teams that friends or classmates can stick together and compete with on weekends. But they must stay in AA level, if they venture out into AAA or major, they get rolled on

So they can't win basically. You win, you get bumped up. Nephew started in AA at age 8. Won state, went to AAA. Won state, went to Major and has been there the last 2 years.

If you win state at AA, why wouldn't you want to take it to the next level? Winning AA State is an accomplishment but you really don't know how you stack up against your age vel, so take it to next level...you then win AAA, so stay in Major. If you struggle, they will move you down.

By the way, what is the makeup of your team? classsmates or "classmates plus a few others" or hand picked group?
