hard to compare what a private school like Evangel can do to a school like Airline. It seems to me that Airline's problem, compared to West Monroe, is they have Benton and Bossier nearby getting the rural, blue collar and inner-city kids. But then again, I've been gone from Bossier for a long time.
That's about right. Think about the neighborhoods that feed Airline: Greenacres, Lakewood, Stonebridge, Stockwell area. Rich and upper middle class. The 'poorest' kids are coming from Swan Lake and Old Greenacres. Not exactly inner city.
The days back when I went to Airline, we went into the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs two times. One year we had Anthony Moss and a duo of ridiculously good backs (very surprised none of them went D-I). As a poster alluded to earlier, this was a huge benefit to Mike Greene's veer offense. My senior year, we ended up losing to Catholic of BR. That year, we had Calvin Dawson at RB who went to ULM and Travis Warren at QB. Robert Smith was a diamond in the rough lineman who walked onto Saban's championship era team at LSU. Good group of kids.
The key here was the ability for QBs to make plays in the option. Both years, the QBs were extremely athletic.
Greene was a good guy. Not sure how I feel about him leaving.

No, nothing was behind it. They just got tired of going to the playoffs just to lose in the first round.
When you make the playoffs with a 5-6 record means you are going to lose

They plan to have the head coach named by Tuesday. Frontrunner is still Bo Meeks.

They actually considered changing the zoning for Airline back in the mid '80's. Meadowview and Swan Lake would have gone to Bossier. There was some selective zoning going on to keep certain athletes at that time as well. Couple of kids who went to Airline should have gone to Bossier. Airline used to have a strong feeder in Greenacres, and that suffered IMO when Cope was built.

A lot of those kids that go to Cope would've gone to Greenacres right?

Cope and Greenacres now both feed Airline

Yeah. Greenacres talent pool was split. Used to be a good feeder into Airline.

Doesnt really matter since both Cope and Greenacres got to Airline, so talent was not cut

Yeah, it does make a difference.

I played for Greene at Loyola in mid 90s. He was a great coach. We didn't have much of an innovative offense, but he got everything he could out of the players - always undersized yet found ways to win.
you did have the fast Italian kid that returned punts though
