Briles is getting paid pretty well at Baylor (in the neighborhood of 2 million a year). Also, there really are no expectations at Baylor beyond being in the running for a bowl game.

Pretty large buy-out (neighborhood of $4M). Texas Tech wanted him prior to Tubby, but couldn't do the buy-out.

I agree. He is a good coach. Houston is a poor man's Boise St.

Don't worry. Briles will be getting a lot of love from big-time programs very soon. He has 19 starters and RGIII all coming back in 2011. Baylor might be the biggest sleeper team in CFB next year.

RGIII

Baylor with RGIII has reached it's zenith, much like Auburn with Cam Newton. I think most of us can agree Baylor is succeeding because of it's talented QB. They tanked last year after he was injured.

im not sure what this is supposed to mean, but UofH should always be a non-BCS power. even after UT,LSU,aTm come in town and take the big name kids, theres 100s of quality players.

like barry switzer once said: give me only harris county and its all i need

I mean they win, and their coaches are always in the carousel discussion - minus the ESPN salivation.........ie - Houston Nutt, Dirk Koetter, Dan Hawkins, Chris Petersen.................Dana Dimel, Art Briles, Kevin Sumlin.

Briles is up there with Malzahn as far as the quickness he went from high school football to college ball while keeping success.

And Todd Dodge and Gerry Faust are examples of how quickly you can fail when you move up a level.

maybe so, but these coaches want to win the big one...if there is a chance for them to move to a program that can seriously complete for a title, and they can also make an extra $1+ million per year, they will probably make the jump...

I just looked it up. I had no idea he went from high school coach to a head coach job in the Big 12 in nine years.
