Sighting in a rifle...Need help

I'm sighting in my 7mm Rem Mag today. I have a 4x16-42 Nikon Monarch with the BDC reticle. According to the website, I should be dead on at 200 yards to be able to use the BDC at 3-600 yards. My problem is where I'm shooting I can only shoot out to 100 yards.
How high should I be at 100 yds to be dead on at 200?
Also, if I shoot a deer at 50 yards, assuming I'm dead on at 200, how high will this be?
I'm shooting Federal 140 grain Nosler Partitions. thanks, R.Head

1"-1.5" high at 100
My 30-06 is 1.5" high at 100. We reload and shoot as flat as a .270 so that should be close to the same for you
Eta: there's no much difference between 50-200 for a 7mm

Your 50 yard shot will be lower than your 200 yard shot.

I always sight in at 200 yards and I shoot a .270, I've never really worried (or changed my shot location on a deer) about shooting a deer at 50 yrds or 100 yards. You should be fine with sighting it in at 100 yards for most normal plots; unless you launch some 300+ yarders.

Pick your spot well at 50 yards. You could lose the whole front end of the deer if you shoot it in the shoulder ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Winchester Ballistic Calculator
Click on the calculator at the bottom of the screen, enter your bullet, grain and sight in yards.. The calculator will do the rest.
