But, it's foolish to ignore the intangibles like leadership.

Peterson and Nevis will go down as 2 of the best at their position in university history. Shep is right there, but he is the 3rd best player on the defense and is easiest one to replace of the 3(not trying to down play it.....All 3 were great Tigers. The other 2 more important to the team overall, imo).

I guess you can call him the "leader of the D" cause he made all the calls, but that doesnt mean much to me. It's the job of any LB that plays that position.

Kelvin Sheppard will be hard to replace because he has a trait that is very rare. He has a tremendous amount of heart. I'm not talking the heart that says he loves his team, loves the game, blah blah blah. I'm talking the kind of heart that says: "I am willing to do anything and everything I can do to make myself and everyone else around me better for this team." Kelvin cannot be replaced and will be sorely missed.

He is the go getter, the guy who rallies the defense when needed, the guy that gets the rest fired up and ready to make a play. While Peterson and Nevis are solid as bricks, KS is the cement that makes the bricks a wall. The best definition of a football leader is one who makes others players nut up and shine in tough situations. Our 10 wins are from the defense. KS may have called the plays, but his leadership provided much more. As
Always our next stud LB will step in and play well, but filling KS's role wont be as easy of a task.
