BO Hit Detection

The hit detection is terrible.
Does anyone else get pissed after putting a clip into someone then dying?
Combine that with the inconsistency of the P2P hosting and it drives me fricking nuts.
Overall I like the game but it makes me rage too often.

I agree.
I love watching the hitbox fail on almost every last kill cam.

i unload clips into people all the time only to be killed by 2 shots from behind

The lag is so evident on every killcam. They stop firing and the guy dies like 4 seconds later.
It pisses me off big time

the hit detection is directly related to the lag

The hit detection is related to lag but I believe Treyarch uses a different model for hits than IW. This was also apparent in w@w.

Earlier today, I was shootin at a guy behind a window side ways so we were at a weird angle. He didn't shoot back once till he pulled out his sniper rifle and offed me with one shot. WHen I looked at that on the kill cam, the guy never had me in his sights. He was at least half a head off with the shot and got me.
Two games later when I started playing with my buddies, we were split up 3 times and my PS3 froze twice on me when I tried to rejoin so I had to turn the system off. Very lucky I didn't break another controller cause with Christmas coming up that would've hurt.

I've gone through at least 200$ worth of controllers because of anger

Damn son. Self control is quality that comes with being old

I feel like I unload on people and get shot twice and die. My question is what players get those 2 shots to kill a person? Cuz I constantly die barely being shot so are some players just racking up on cheap kills?

Host advantage and how good your connection is to that host plays a huge part in this game.

I noticed this too. At first I thought it was just because my gun was weaker. Then I noticed it with the M60 at close range.
I thought there is no way I'm pumping all this lead into someone only to be killed by a pistol or SMG.

The explanation is the P2P hosting system.
Someones Xbox or PS3 is the host and every player is dependent on that persons connection.
The only connection that really matters is the hosts. More specifically the hosts upload rate.
Each player in a match will have a different amount of lag relative to every other player in that match.
Just because there is no stuttering/ghosting/rubber-banding doesn't mean there is no lag. There is lag in every match. It is at a different amount for each player regarding each other player. The killcam will show how much you are really lagging.
In COD4 the host could rape at will. This has since been changed as now sometimes it is bad to be host as you will lag the most.
Games will be inconsistent. P2P hosting is 90's technology and a cheap way for Activision to save money.
P2P hosting + shitty hitbox design + shitty matchmaking + shitty spawning = a shitty game.
Its still better than MOH though. I would be happy to pay $100 for 50 new maps for COD4 and be done with the BS and hype every year.

So i'm guessing that "dedicated servers" would be a better option? Meaning that Treyarch would have servers for hosting online play?
I have seen this term tossed around and I wasnt sure what it meant.

Are you saying that you aren't familiar with dedicated servers?
Id love to see them implemented, but this is unlikely to take effect. Once Sony starts charging for PSN, maybe they'll actually take some of that money out of their pocket, and buy us some GD servers.

Yeah i was just trying to figure out what dedicated servers meant.

A dedicated server is basically a computer or server box that is set up to host the game. Everyone that connects to the server, runs off of it. The reason its called dedicated, is because its usually always up, and anyone can connect to it at any time and have a reliable connection.
For example, MW1 on PC ran off of dedicated servers.

Sometimes I feel like the lag and hit detection are on my side. Last night that was not the case.
