Someone Please Explain To Me

how pulling for Auburn or Alabama or Florida or any other team that LSU recruits against in ANY sport DIRECTLY helps LSU.
LSUs championships are used to entice recruits to come to LSU instead of other schools. Won't Auburn or Alabama or others use their championships in the same way?
So I again ask for a CLEAR EXPLANATION of how any SEC school's championship helps LSU to recruit or win games or be more competitive in a game?
To put it another way, if you are rooting for another SEC team to be more successful than LSU in pursuit of championships, are you also rooting for them to be more successful in recruiting?

I have always hated this as well. I do not understand the whole confrence pride thing. If your not LSU then piss off.

It only indirectly helps LSU by helping the SEC stay atop the college football world so that when an SEC team has a loss, they still have a better shot of getting into the NC.

street cred

It doesn't. Some people have this "SEC pride" for some reason. Personally, i couldn't give a rats arse about the SEC. They'll cheer for Auburn to win a NC because its "good for the SEC" without realizing it could possibly hurt LSU.

Opportunities to PLAY for championships are used. The past one's do not benefit the recruit. They simply point out that LSU is a place that CAN play for one.
The SEC winning makes the SEC more respected and gives the benefit of the doubt to SEC champs.
Also, I am not a whining baby. I can respect the teams that outplay LSU and appreciate that their being good makes my Saturdays in the fall more enjoyable.
I do NOT want Boise State's schedule.

You must not listen to very much national media and the SEC domination discussions. Every time someone starts this discussion whether for the SEC or arguing against someone points out the list of SEC National Champions the last few years. LSU is always in the discussion.
If Oregon or BS or TCU win it this year instead of Auburn then that discussion will cease.

The SEC being a dominant conference helped LSU get into the title game in '07. Reputation of the conference helps strength of schedule. And honestly, I don't think winning a national championship bolsters recruiting that much.
Sure it helps, but its not like you get any kid you want just because you won a title last year.

I'm probably in the middle on this one. I generally pull for SEC teams, probably out of a sense of regional pride and perhaps moreso because I am familiar with them. I watch SEC football much more than I watch other teams play, so when they play out of conference opponents, I tend to want them to win. I also like the SEC keeping up its rep as the toughest conference because I think that does help LSU with the coaches and Harris poll voters. But that's about the limit of my conference pride. I had a ball watching Bama get licked by Utah and I have been known to pull for Auburn's opponents, too (especially if they play Wisconsin; I like the Badgers).

For me, besides SEC pride, its economics. LSU gets more money from the SEC for more SEC teams playing in bowl games, especially if we get 2 teams in BCS bowls.
If LSU has no shot at playing for the national champioship even if Oregon and Auburn have losses, I would much prefer Auburn to play in the National Championship game and take the $17 million back to the SEC. In that scenario, we would likely also get a BCS bowl for another $17 million payout to take back to the SEC. The SEC teams would split $34 million, just from those two games.
If Auburn or LSU do not play for the national championship, we may only get $17 million total to split amongst the SEC teams.
This is not to mention the prestige of the SEC and getting better bowl tie-ins, for even more bowl money to split.
Although, I do understand the hate of SEC schools. I only root for them if it helps LSU atheltics.

First you're going to have to explain to me how a fan pulling for a team that they're watching play on TV actually helps that team win the game.
Then I'll tell you that LSU is only as good as its competition. The better the teams LSU beats, the better LSU is perceived.

That's a good question, and your position is valid. I respectfully disagree, however.
1. Regional pride. I remember all those years when the SEC teams were considered second tier by the sportscasters who loved ND, Ohio State, USC, Michigan, etc. The return of objectivity via the BCS has laid waste to those prejudices, and I for one will always chant "SEC!" when I'm at a game where an SEC school puts a beatdown on one of those pampered pretenders.
2. If LSU does well it does not affect recruiting that significantly for other SEC schools to do well also. A kid who is leaning LSU/Ala is not going to make his choice because we finish #5 and bama finishes #2. If he does he's an idiot. And if we all finish well it enhances the conference reputation for all of us.
3. I draw the line at cheaters. I will not pull for Auburn in any postseason games this year.

I never never never pull for teams who directly recruit against LSU.

It has'nt affected it yet? But I do understand the point.Im not pulling for anyone else.

I grew up hating Ole Miss. Then I moved outside the state and I soon realized that Notre Dame, Texas, and Miami... were just as much our competitors as Ole Miss.
If the the rest of the teams in the SEC are dogs, it weakens our strength of schedule. If Auburn win the BCS Championship, it keeps the SEC streak going.
Go SEC!

I am pulling for the Gumps because I hate Aubrun with a passion.

If it is one SEC school against another, it might substantially help with BCS rankings and bowl appearances.

Dude, I said this in 06 when Florida made it and everyone got made at me. I don't pull for other SEC schools. I don't give a shite about conference power and sticking with your conference. I am for LSU and LSU alone. Fuk the rest of the conference.

I can't stand it when people root for an SEC rival because it's an SEC team.
Like when Florida played Oklahoma in the championship a couple years ago. Why the HELL would any LSU fan root for UF?

Because if the SEC isn't successful, and LSU is, then LSU is just another Boise St. or TCU.
I don't want to see Florida or Alabama become a dynasty, of course not. But since the BCS started, Tennessee, LSU twice, Florida twice, and Alabama have all won titles, with Auburn deserving one as well and possibly winning one this year. That's parity. When 5 of 12 teams in the conference have won a BCS title or have gone undefeated, do you really think a kid is going to have an easy time picking? There's no clear-cut go-to school in the SEC. As long as the SEC has several contenders, which we do, then recruiting won't be an issue.
