when they refer to us as Bayou Bengals? What is the history behind this anyway?

Tigers are referred to as Bengals at times.
Louisiana is basically a bayou.

Very well stated. Back when Cholly Mac was coach he often wore a cap that had Bayou Bengals on it.

My pet peave is they refer to all of us as "Cajuns" no offense but I'm Italian and Contental French (No Canadian Refugees in my family tree). Plus I don't like mentioning the USL mascot.

It is a distinguished distinction to separate us from other "Tiger" teams such as Auburn and Clemson. Embrace it.
