How does everyone feel about "trick" plays? Have a friend who thinks the reverse, the fake punt take away from the win because "that's what LSU will be known for and not being able to just run normal plays". Wants to compare us to Urban Meyer for running them.

I said every team has them, practices them and uses them when necessary.

Thoughts?

Going for it on 4th and 1 is not a trick play.

The fake punt was a coverage read, thus not a trick play.

Setting up Ridley to throw a pass -- THAT is a trick play.

Which of those did not work? The trick play. The other plays are simply misdirection. Capitalizing on a crashing defense instead of one that stays at home.

We've been beat by them. Why not win by them. It is not our fault they didn't prepare correctly for them. Wasn't like it was new.

Was just a misdirection pitch play. Not THAT tricky or high risk. LSU practices them... Just good play calls at the right time that worked. It doesn't take away from the win at all, and any coach will confidently call a certain play, "trick" or not if he feels it will work based on what shows up on film and the field.

The halfback pass that never was is not a trick play either. Bama defended it perfectly anyway

when we run conventional plays that do not work, does your friend bitch about how bad the play call was? if so, you might want your friend to begin posting on the rant so he (she) can be with many of their own kind. i.e., the kind that bitch about everything.

What struck me is how well the execution on these plays was. It was clear that the team was ready in each situation.

It's just people attempting to get under your skin and succeeding.
It won't show up on the list of BCS champs.
Just win baby.

It's clear the plays were executed thoroughly and rehearsed a lot. This is completely legal.
STFU about it.
Did you see the Saints lose to the Browns on 3 "trick plays"?

this team is so predictable that anytime it goes against a tendency it's a trick play.

the coaches made some good calls against the defenses that were shown. It demonstrates that our offensive gurus can read a defense.

my question is why don't we do it more often?

Headline and columns in Mobile paper this am..."Trickery Let's LSU win by 3"..ah what great politicians these gumps are. Hats off to Greg McElroy though. He says, "They beat us...teams, coaches". And if there are those among us who don't know it...WE DID!

No kidding, it has been a call that has been missing from our gameplan far too long. With our speed, some misdirection is long overdue.

Hell I liked the hurry up and really didnt even mind the attempted halfback pass. I am just glad that Ridley knew enough to tuck it and eat it.
