It was a full two seconds after Brees threw the ball and it was helmet to helmet.

Give me various examples man.
Almost every Browns and Bengals fans I know tell me about how they love and respect the way Polamalu plays the game. He plays balls the wall, is all over the field, throws his body around like a ragdoll, and doesn't get caught up in celebrating/talking shite. If that's being a dirty player to you, it's laughable.

It may not have hit his helmet, but he hit him very late and he led with his helmet. I'm not making up that he hit him really late.
ETA -- And his attitude toward the first fines and the enforcing of the rule had a lot to do with this too.

Leading with the crown of the helmet and using the helmet as a weapon cannot be tolerated. It's for the safety of the hitter and the person getting hit.
Sorry if you don't like it, macho rambo mans man. Also, no new rules have been implemented, only existing rules being enforced properly.

Again, helmet to helmet isn't the point, it's leading with the crown of the helmet. That is what got him fined.

Are we watching the same video replay?

My thoughts exactly...
I counted 1.5 seconds in slow mo, now I dont know how long that is in real time but it's definitely not 2 seconds.
And he didn't bend over to lead with the helmet, he slightly bent forward to get there faster.
Btw I was at this game and cheered for the penalty call, but I think some of you are over reacting.

1. The hit was not helmet-to-helmet
2. He didn't lead with his helmet
3. It was no more than 1 second after Brees threw the ball
The fine was because it was a late hit, not the manner of the hit.
He didn't even hit Brees hard, more of a love tap.

Fine was because it was a hit on a star QB. NFL is getting a bit excessive with protecting the QBs.

i posed the question right after it happened.. is it the intent or the actual helmet to helmet that matters? i don't think he should be leading helmet first..
i still think it should be a judgement call.. and i know you can never be 100 percent sure.. but i truly don't think all helmet to helmets should be penalties.. but the intent of it is far worse.

It was slightly late, but now it seems like it's a bit of a pissing match. Harrison wants to play ball the same way and Goodell wants to protect players.
Harrison will continued to be fined for doing less since he's so vocal about it and his previous history

What a joke, i am a huge Saints fan and no way that was $20k worth, it was borderline even as a penalty.

I agree, and why didn't he fine Polamalu for going after Jones' knees
