I always drink Community Dark Roast.
I have a friend who works in purchasing for an east Texas grocer chain.
He told me that Community was going to stop shipping the vacuum-packed bricks to their stores. We would only be able to get the regular bags (which is less coffee at same price).

My question is this...
Is River Road coffee as good as I've heard?
I will be at the LSU/Alabama game and I'm going to pick some up before I head back to TX.
My grocer friend wants some to sample and possibly start selling it in their stores.

I'm going to try it myself, but I just wanted an overall opinion if it's as good or better than Community.
Thanks for any responses.

I like River Rd a lot. I buy their whole bean Creole blend, it is a medium dark blend, and the organic decafeine. It only takes an extra few seconds to grind my own and it is worth it. The afternoon pot is decafeine and it is so rich it is hard to tell the difference.

I like Community also, but I give the edge to River Rd, it is the best decaffeinated I have ever had.

Community and River Road coffee are pretty close in taste. A lifetime Community drinker would likely pick up on some difference in taste though. The owner of River Road is a former Community employee. I suspect his roasting method is pretty similar to Community and they probably both purchase a similar bean.

Having worked at the Community plant for 10 yrs., why would they stop shipping the vacuum packages, doesn't make sense. Everything they package besides office coffees are bricks

Community = overrated and over priced. Maxwell House makes just as good a coffee in the can for cheaper. Don't get this "I only drink Community" crap. Maybe it is just because we are a nation of sheepeople.

Experiment a little. There are much better coffees out there than Community.

i drink both on a regular basis
and i'd say yes.

and i'd also say that
CDM
French Market
and
Luzianne

are all also very good...
Louisiana coffee is sometimes very underrated.

Yes, not to mention they are great people. I used to work next door to them. Since we had to "deal" with the smell of them roasting beans everyday, they supplied to office for free

You can't find the vacuum sealed bricks in Tallahassee anymore - only the regular bags. And the New Orleans blend isn't called that either - its just called 'coffee and chickory medium dark roast'.

When I was poor I drank Community...dark roast. Now I drink Starbucks...Espresso.
Worst coffee in the world was Sanka instant. My mom made me drink it because she was too lazy to brew coffee. She also made me eat liver cheese sammiches because she was too lazy to make dinner.
