Anybody have any suggestions on cover scents? I have used a few different kinds over the years (hunting in a bottom I used acorn cover scents). Just wondering what the most effective ones were.

If you can tolerate it, coon piss works well.

I usually put this on my boots when walking in as I have to walk through my food plot to get to my stand. Not fond of spraying it on my clothes though.

It takes some getting used to but deer do not wind you when you are using it. Scentlock clothing does not work!! Coon piss does!

I have heard this from friends of mine that use it. shite sure is expensive. Do the carbon sprays work? I haven't tried any of those.
ETA. I also have a friend who sprays the C'mere deer concentrate on his clothes and says that it works as well.

If you are hunting anywhere with cattle

I use the scent-a-way acorn spray and hunt the wind. I have had several encounters in which I thought I was going to get busted and didn't. I may have just gotten lucky all these times and it may be hunting the wind too but it makes me feel better and I'm going to keep using it. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I agree. I try to do this as much as possible. Sometimes every stand I have (I only have three stands) all manage to be in a bad wind.

When I hunt in my bottom this is what I use. They clear cut my land about fifteen years ago and so now the pines that they planted are getting to be about 25-30 feet tall (still not big enough at the base to climb though) and I put a new box stand in the middle of them. I guess the acorn scent would work okay there as well.

of course hunt the wind, but we all know that the wind can change direction and it often does, last year was my first year that I used Dead Down Wind and I shot 2 does with my bow, both of which were within 15 yards and both were down wind of me, and I also noticed that I busted less during bow season with deer down wind of me.

Never tried this. Will give it a shot. Can I get this at Academy?

FWIW I like all of the Hunters specialties products and the fresh earth dryer sheets and cover spray. The scent killer brand is good too but I like their unscented.

Border Crossing Scents...Ever Calm Deer Heard in stick.....
I also hunt the wind when bow hunting but I do have to walk thru my hunting area to get to my bow set up. I hit a few trees with before I climb up and put some more on the tree when I get set up in my climber. I am a believer in the stuff.
And the best part is its not coon piss or skunk piss.

Yeah I guess it would judging by all the coons and deer eating in harmony at my feeder. Can this stuff be bought at Academy? Also hoping it is synthetic

Don't know if any of you ever took a chemistry lab but I always wondered if this would work. I wanted to take some cedea (wax myrtle) leaves and boil them down and condense the vapors into a concentrate. Seems like it would work but don't have access to lab equipment. i would think you could do the same with pine needles. Put that condensate in a spray bottle and you should be good to go I would think.
