If a player plays in 3 or less games gets hurt and misses rest of season he is eligible for a Medical Reshirt. This is what I think was said on the show.

But those 3 or less (30% rule)games MUST be in the first half of the regular season, just to be clear. So any Tiger injured from this Saturday's game on (hopefully none!), cannot qualify for a medical hardhip year.

For this year, I think Spencer Ware should of been red-shirted.

I don't. My biggest complaint with Miles was that he didn't utilize freshman talent. Now that he does I hope he keeps it up.

LSU is loaded @ RB so I say use em and don't recruit em if they do nothing but ride the pine for 3 years.

Nevis........no way. We won a BCS Championship because of him. Remember, Alexander and Dorsey were hurt. I bet he gladly traded a red shirt year for the BCS Ring and his contribution. Besides....we would never have seen him on the field next year if he had red shirted in 2007...unless we happened to drop in on a Sunday Game.

We played him for half of one game and then limped out a gimpy Dorsey for the rest of the season.

And DT is the one position where people don't leave early as much. Sure he might go but it'd be unreal to have him another year.

Check out his stats....he had a better yr in 07 than 08. So we should have reshirted him in 08?

Large portions of this thread make my head hurt. Apparently every freshman should contribute significantly or be redshirted.

I don't think its one extreme or the other. Certain players need the time to gain weight. Certain players are ready and just need experience. Sometimes a player may not be ready but is the only option.
Unless its a steltz-like waste, if the player is ready then play him. He doesn't have to be a major contributor or have a huge impact right away for it to be a successful FR season.
