I think a Big YES. That said, the '07 D seemed to start wearing down towards to the end. The two losses were not because we couldn't score enough points but because we could not stop UK and Ark. When they had time to heal, they got it done. I think this group may not be individually better but they are far deeper.

Not only are they better than the 2007 defense, think they are better than the 2003 d as well.

These guys have a a totally different feel to them. Our D is straight up wicked.

Uhhh, 43 maybe? And only 27 in regulation. ETA - Game 7, also.

Again, OT - 28 in regulation.

That said, I agree that, through 6 games this defense looks as good as any we've had, certainly since 2003 and maybe since the early 70s.

Not a chance.

The 2003 d wouldn't have given up a late 4th quarter drive to fall behind.

Whoa there, hoss.

LSU is about to get tested here by 4 teams with better offenses then they have seen so far...

Besides the '03 defense was scary good w/ their "hundreds" of blitz packages.

i think you're confused about the 52, but we definitely gave up 50 to Arky in triple OT. you're thinking of 2008 (FL & GA)

The 2007 team had a better defensive line, and some excellent talent in the secondary as I recall, but this team's secondary plays amazing team defense and has to be absolutely scary to throw against given how they cover so well and go for the ball. The 2007 team (and earlier versions) always had trouble with good throwing QB's which may haven been more of a defensive scheme flaw. When did our current defensive coordinator take over?

No. Not yet at least.

ETA: I do agree they are better than 07.

It was a great defense, but they did give up a 4th Qtr touchdown to Ole Miss to make a 3 point difference. The 2003 offense also didn't give up as many short fields, so it may be apples and oranges.

Suffice it to say, the 2010 (so far) is on par with 2003, and could end the best since the Tommy Casanova era.

I think that by season's end this defense will compare favorably to '03's. The fact that they were NC's makes it hard to be objective.

hard to tell due to the injuries in 07, but possible. I hate comparing one team to the next like this because it always seems like we are taking away from one group of tigers.
