Third time I am posting this now, but all of the Crowton posts present the same conundrum:
"Posts like this always beg the question: what, exactly, does Les Miles do all season?
In 2008, the defense was atrocious (as a result of hires Miles made). Apparently, he was incapable of stepping in and resolving the issue himself during the season. After the season, he fired his cronies and retained Chavis. The defense has improved under Chavis.
In 2010, the offense has been inept thus far. This is being blamed on Crowton. Apparently, Miles himself cannot step in and remedy the matter immediately. So now he is supposed to resolve the offensive woes by hiring a new coordinator, who will return us to glory.
But this sequence of events indicates that Miles is incapable of autonomously coaching either the offense or the defense. Apparently, he can't actually coach either side of the ball. He's just a figurehead who recruits and hires other men who can actually coach."

binoculars =/= headset communications.....does he have it tapped? no. GG makes a weak assertion.

I have absolutely no issue with a "figure head" as head coach. Actually, I would prefer it ... Organization runs smoother in the long run IMO (see Penn State/Paterno, Texas/Brown, Florida State/Bowden, Ohio State/Tressel).
Nonetheless, I wish we could get from point A to point C a lot faster.
I'm ready for Crowton to go...TODAY!

Pretty much. But that isn't a bad thing. Plenty of head coaches have been figure heads, all they did is let the assistants do their thing. Miles just needs a better O coordinator on that side of the ball.

Glen Guilbeau on Nick Saban:
I watch Nick on the sidelines with my up close binoculars and really like his haircut - I wonder who is barber is? I wish I could dress like him too.

If you think the play calling is so great tell me what fool would throw a fade to a 5'9 tailback when you have two 6'2 are taller receivers
Posted on 10/7/10 at 1:36 pm to stapuffmarshy
its a combination of everything....play calling...personnel...everything...we have no identity...
our identity like another poster said should mirror Bamas...
Lee in at QB, Play action...draws. screens...hitting deep passes....shep in the wildcat with the occasional throw....basically putting the ball in our play makers hands as often as possible...
it doesnt take a genius to figure this shite out...

I think Crowton is used to working with cerebral QB's. (I know this knocks Jordan but he hasn't proved he makes good decisions yet) I think Crowton is lost having to call a game for a QB who has perceived decision challenges. He was too damn effective with Flynn and other QB's to be dismissed as an idiot. I think he can't figure out how to use a QB like Jordan.

Well, whoever called the fade inside the ten with JL throwing the ball, when we had eaten up their d-line with Ridley, needs to go. Worst play call I have seen in a while...maybe on 3rd down but no way you call that on 1st down with our offensive problems.

Agreed, 35 to 40 yd fade pass/hangtime, after rolling right/throwing left, while on the 8 yd line, after grinding all way down field..
Dumb!

I didn't have a problem with the play design. And it might not have been the prime place to call it, but the execution of the play deserves the most criticism.
Once Ridley was accounted for, Lee has to throw it away or to the outside shoulder. It was expected that Ridley would be more clear of his defender, and the pass would not require so much arch.
Lee deserves the most blame, IMO. Ridley should have also recognized the situation, and interfered if necessary. And for me to defend Crowton and/or Miles at this point, must be taken as a sign by everyone else to reconsider their thoughts on this particular play.
You have to realize the severe struggles we are having in the red zone. Nine yards may have been more than our offense could handle in four downs running the ball. We barely got 8 yards against Miss. St., and later in the game it took 2 plays to get 2 yards on the ground, BARELY.

That's just it, if LSU recruits a lean leaper in 6'-6" Tolliver, why not have him as the target instead of a fireplug 6'-0" RB, and throw the ball to the outside shoulder, where only he can make a play on it? And as you mentioned, Ridley didn't turn into a defender as a well-trained WR is trained to do, on a ball that is left floating to a precarious spot.
Don't have your seven-footers shooting treys unless their name is Dirk..don't have your Point Guard posting up down low..unless his name is Magic.

He wasn't that effective with Flynn. Though our offense was pretty good, that had more to do with the o-line and running game than anything Flynn did.
And in response to another poster who said he didn't have any problem with a 'figurehead' head coach who wasn't that involved with in-game management. I agree only if that coach can also take control of the game when it's obvious the play calling isn't working. Miles has shown zero ability to do that so far.
I fear Miles biggest weakness though is his stubborness and resistance to change.
Of course, if he finishes 10-2, I may be crawfishing pretty badly.

That's the thing, I think Crowton is too smart...
by half.
It's the old 'they'll never expect the fade to the 'least' likely fade option so let's do that', not sure where that comes from but dadgum....

I'd like to know what pass he is talking about I don't think there are many throws that Flynn can make that JL can't
Everyone thinks that Flynn was some great athlete. He really wasn't, but he worked his arse off and was a great leader. That's why he was successful and still will be in the NFL
