I'm 18 days into the advocare 24 day challenge.
I'm super late to the thread and I'm sure it has been discussed but what are some good diet and exercise plans people here have found to be effective?
TIA and I'm looking forward to learning and sharing anything I can

Eh everyone is different and depending on what you eat may be different from everyone else. I'm a picky water so many vegetables I don't eat, much like tuna and fish. So I stick to lean meats for the most part and low carbs. I usually stay between 1600-1800 calories a day when I'm not screwing up

Like tdeucen said, everyone is different. I've tried just about everything.. Atkins, Weight Watchers, Paleo, to just 'eating right'. I've tried just running, I've tried just weightlifting, I've tried running and weightlifting, I've tried walking and weightlifting. I've tried full body MWF lifting workouts, I've tried 5-day splits. I've tried low rep, high sets, I've tried high rep, low sets. Circuits.
basically, you name it, I've tried it. What works best for me is Keto dieting (Atkins) mixed with plenty of cardio and a little weight training, MWF full body workouts, high rep and low set, alternating what body parts I hit.
The only sound advice anyone can really give about it all is: Eat less than you burn in a day, get some form of exercise. Find what works for you, and stick with it.

Yesterday's weigh in was 232. Apparently I've grown another food baby. I'm pretty sure the chicken soup my wife made for dinner didn't cause me to gain 3 pounds.
Back to the gym today after taking a couple of weeks off.

Appreciate all of the advice
I was a wrestler in high school and stayed involved through college and up until ~5 years ago when life started interfering. Through the fitness foundation I built there and 4-5 days a week weight training, I had been able to stay in great shape without any cardio.
In 2013 my metabolism cut in half and I had shoulder surgery. The combination of those two and constantly entertaining for work is what caused me to go from 160 to 180 (5'6"). Getting back into shape with the metabolism of an adult (32) and not a 20 something is really making me regret letting myself go.
On a side note, I've signed up for the Super Spartan race in Austin on 5/17. It's an 8 mile obstacle race. If anyone is interested maybe we can start Team PuttaDaForkDown or post training regimens we are trying

Basically starting with what Hulk said, eat less than you burn. It took me a few years to figure out what works best for me and my body.
As far as diet, I eat a ton of chicken breast, Tuna, and Salmon. Lots of lean proteins. Figure out your lean body mass and try to at least a gram of protein per pound of that. It'll be tough, but if you do it while staying clean. You'll drop weight. Very little carbs ie: no rice, noodles, beer, and the what not. And eat a ton of greens.
If you have a sweet tooth, Quest bars are a great substitute. Cookie dough flavor
Or I usually take plain greek yogurt and mix in a half scoop or so of protein powder.
There are a ton of great recipe sites out there. I used these 3 the most:
www.epicurreanbb.com
www.rippedrecipes.com
and search for the Protein Chef on Youtube. He's got some good stuff too.
I lift pretty much everyday. Heavy and hard. Very very little cardio considering it's basically a cardio workout while I lift. I try to get one good run in a week but it doesn't always happen.
Just test out some things and see how your body reacts.
Good luck

I went to the grocery Sunday, and have most of this week's meals thought out.
Two soccer games this week and a new bike, hope to start making some progress.

Be glad you're doing this now and not later. I'm 6'2 but regardless of height, 360 pounds is a fat frick. It sure has been a learning experience. Good to have you on board

I laugh at the posts of people less than 180 trying to get to 165. I know I shouldn't, but I do. They are the fortunate/wise ones that will never know the misery of obesity. Good for them being on top of it.

I know what you mean, but no you definitely shouldn't laugh at them. Every man's struggle is his own. Just because they don't know what it's like to struggle through fighting obesity doesn't mean they don't know the struggle of weight loss.
1st ever keto weightlifting session - not very successful. Hopefully I just need to give myself more time to get adjusted to ketosis. Halfway through I had to stop and take a 10min break, I was on the verge of hurling. No longevity whatsoever, not like I've been used to with carbs... even with a pre-workout. I did 3x10 squats and felt totally winded after, but pushed through and did 3x10 bench and 3x10 rows. Completely bonked at that point. Tried to get on the treadmill to at least get some extra workout in, 5 minutes in I got on the verge of hurling again. I didn't scale back the weight I was lifting; may need to do that for a week or two until my body is used to ketosis.

a few hours prior to workout I had 6oz chicken breast cooked in coconut oil, cooked down half an onion and some mushrooms. This morning I had a half an avocado and that made me sick to my stomach, starting to think I'm allergic to them. I can't eat it without getting sick.
May just need to give it a little time. It's been about a year and a half since I did a hard keto.

Hulk, it's probably just your body not used to the switch. Or you could be allergic or have something against avocados. How many grams of protein are you getting in? I seriously ramped up my protein intake to keep my energy when I did PSMF and took out all carbs.
