The Problem is Coaching; Criticizing Players is Wrong

Those "fans" who are criticizing, booing and bad-mouthing individual players are an embarrassment. Keep in mind most of these players are 18 to 22 years old and want nothing more than to please the fans and be successful. I did not witness one player out there last night not giving 100% effort. It is evident that the players have the desire to be successful and to win.
I fault no one for offering reasonable criticism of Miles and Crowton. Crowton has done an atrocious job. In my opinion, unless the offense improves, this is Crowton's last season at LSU.
Looking at the big picture, there are three main problems with this coaching staff, particularly the offensive staff:
1) Poor roster management,
2) Lack of talent development at key positions, and
3) Bad offensive play-calling.
The above problems are the fault of coaching, not the players. If an individual player is not performing up to expectations, the coaches' decisions or lack thereof, and coaching failure with respect to the above problems, have placed him in that position. As the head coach, it falls on Miles' shoulders.
The penalties, specifically the personal fouls, were a disappointment and kept WVU in the game. However, I do not expect the PFs to continue. The PF on Peterson for the Heisman pose had a big effect on the game in that it reversed the field position advantage LSU was enjoying up to that point. With the exception of the two PFs committed by Mingo, he played well. The facemask did not appear to be intentional in the least. Mingo plays with an aggressive mentality, and hopefully he has learned from his mistakes. The same is true for Barrow, who I believe had the late hit PF on the sideline.

So if a player makes a great play, when we cheer, we need to make it clear we are cheering for the coaches, AND NOT, the players?

Thanks for that, cocksnot.

Again, it is a combination of poor roster management and talent development.

The night and day difference of the offense and the defense (special teams as well) is incredible. The offense has progressively gotten worse over the last 3 years. I am more frustrated with Miles & Crowton that I was with Dinardo & Tepper with their clownish defense.

Living in the Atlanta area we get exposed to multiple programs. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Valdosta State each week. Of those listed, Nick Saban and Alabama are the only ones who nit pick wins and loses the way LSU does. The difference is Alabama is fine tuning a machine. LSU is trying to overhaul an engine.

Clearly no, because success on the field is the product of preparation and practice which includes coaching and individual player effort.

I could not agree more.

Bama on offense is well tuned. Crowton schemes so very much for the offense it is incredibly reminiscent of all the scheming that Tepper did on defense. It all ends up being bullshite that results in poor results.

How about its wrong to boo players. Not just LSU players.
BamaScoop posted earlier today how he has witnessed first hand the boodbirds at BDS. Cut the crap about this being a problem at LSU.

The problem is bitching about being 4-0 while beating a top 25 team. let the season play out. making yourself miserable over a what if is stupid.
fact is, when i go to bed tonight. i'll wake up beside my wife. she will not turn into jennifer anniston tomorrow.
our qb issues are what they are. it's not changing.

Exactly correct, with one exception. Miles will join Crowton as a former resident of Baton Rouge at the end of the season.

If that's true, then wouldn't it be valid to criticize both coaches, and the individual player for their effort, since success depends on both?

Agreed it is the players job to put his best out there on the field. It's the coaches job to pull a player. I don't blame JJ or JL for this mess. They call me a negatiger and I won't criticize JJ or JL for doing their best?

While watching the Alabama-Arkansas game, I heard the announcer quoting Saban as distinguishing coaching offense and defense. Obviously, these are not exact words, but he said that coaching offense involves sticking to whatever is working and coaching defense involves sticking to a scheme.
In watching LSU's offense, I have no idea what Crowton is attempting to accomplish. Last night, one of the commentators stated that LSU has no identity on offense. I agree with this statement.

He paraphrased Saban as saying the D will run a specific scheme. The O will have a little more free reign to allow the talent to express themselves in the moment.

Your point is well-taken. In my opinion, the source of the weaknesses in this team is coaching: roster management, talent development and play-calling. I believe the players are putting forth their best effort.
