Toss to RIdley when he fumbled

Why the hell are we running a toss in the 4th quarter on 3rd?? Not a coach in America with any sense would do that. Even if Crowton called the play, Miles should have enough sense to say "Wait NO! Put the ball in his stomach! Do not toss it! Hand it off. We don't want to take that risk."
But no. We run a downhill toss. That is terrible coaching.

I agree. Just keep it simple.

you mean the play when he ran for 8 yards, and got the first down? you're blaming the QB/RB exchange for a fumble that happened 8 yards away from the LOS?

Are you trying to say he never had possession?

Sean Payton once ran a reverse with a pitch in basically the same situation except it was around midfield.

Hanagriff was going off on this last night too, and I just don't get it. The ball was in Ridley's hands for a good 2-3 secs before he fumbled it, and he had ample time to put it away. The toss didn't affect shite.

Maybe Ridley kept thinking about this bad exchange as he was running (in those few seconds) and then at the end of the run (at the time of fumbling) it hit him that it was gross incompetence during the QB/RB exchange ->led him to start crying which in turn made him loosen the grip on the ball

I think it was a double reverse actually. I thought Payton was such an idiot for doing that. The announcers were pretty baffled as well. There is no sense in running risky plays when you are just trying to run out the clock. No reverses, options, risky passes, etc.

thats a power running play.
he got the first down on it
he just fumbled
he got the first down on it
he just fumbled

Watch the way the elite runners handle the ball, they hold it high and tight and will put two arms around the ball in traffic. He will get more touches in practice this week and get the coaching needed to drive technique home.
I like how big and explosive Ridley looks. He is blazing past the linebackers at about the same size.

I agree. Regardless of when he fumbled the ball, it is still more risky to toss it rather than hand it off.

I don't think the toss caused the fumble, but why would you call a toss in that spot. Bad coaching.

I noticed that while watching the replay tonight.
It was a stupid call. Any toss has a much higher chance of a fumble than sticking the ball in his gut.
Obviously the exchange was ok on the play but why run a riskier type play when you dont have to.

The play was a first down and game over play. The toss had nothing to do with the fumble, it worked.

we ran this play mutiple times during the game, the only reason you're bitching is because ridley fumbled

You are missing the point. He's not blaming the fumble on the toss. He is simply questioning why you would call for a risky toss play when you're trying to hold onto the ball and run out the clock. A simple handoff would have been a much safer and wiser call. To the OP, I was wondering the same thing.

I don't think a toss is a risky call at all. That's basic football. Besides, if it does get muffed then at least he has room to fall on it without a linemen beating him to it.. because of the added depth.

it was a better play then all the runs out of the shotgun we did. I wish we had run it more last night. Is anyone else tired of the QB reads out of shotgun?
Believe me, I could find a lot worse from last night then that playcall.
