re: Danielson on Finebaum today

Let's not forget the Alabama game where he was "speared" by the Alabama defensive player, in front of the ref I may add, yet no call. I think he may have been like 10/17 for 172 yards before getting his ankle twisted. Reports indicated he was okay to go back in the game, but he never did. If he stays in that game, things would have been very interesting.

Gary Danielson is a pretty intelligent man. At least everyone associated with the LSU team is saying all the right things going into this season. But then again, words are cheap.
I can't believe that JJ had the restraints on him all of last season...Seems like the restraints would've loosened up a little after each game. Oh well, who are we to question the great wisdom of Les Miles.

And don't think for a second his good first half play led to bigger holes in the second half including the Shepard TD run.
I think Charles Scott had like 5 carries for 8 yards in the 2nd half and we were already beating them 17-0 going into the 3rd quarter. We did get great blocking though on the play with Shep. But I think he shocked them more than anything with his speed and outran everyone.
quote:
He didn't play well in either game. Against Ole Miss he barely completed half his passes and 42 of his yards came on what was supposed to be the hail mary to Toliver that was thrown outside of the end zone and left 1 second on the clock. He was sacked 4 times. 2 of them were crucial--once in the first half he took a sack in Rebel territory on 3rd and 6 late in the second quarter that prevented us from attempting a FG or a makeable 4th down attempt. Then, of course, he was sacked with 35 second left that killed the clock.
It's a good thing he threw it when and where he did. He got nailed as he threw it, Toliver was going full speed and basically caught it in stride and it was a long-azz throw. What more do you want. It was a good throw. I didn't say JJ didn't make idiotic decisions in that game. That really doesn't have that much to do with what I'm talking about. Also, he had 200 yards passing before he even threw that hail mary. Although he made stupid decisions, we had some nice TDs in the passing game and moved the ball well at times. We didn't move it on the ground very much.
quote:
Against PSU, again he was like 54% on the day and throw a costly pick inside our our own 30 that led to PSU points. And since when did 202 passing yards become awesome?
First of all, it was probably the worst conditions I've ever seen for a field (and the weather was terrible). We had a TON of drops in the game (especially in that 1st half). And that Int. that you blamed JJ for was a perfect pass that Toliver muffed and it bounced right to the Penn St. defender. Get real.
Did I say anywhere that 202 passing yards is awesome? No, I did not. But in general, when someone throws for 200+ and doesn't have multiple interceptions or fumbles, it's usually looked at as a pretty good game. He had some great throws in the 2nd half as well. With 202 yards passing, you'd think that maybe JJ wouldn't have had more yards per carry at 1.4 than our starting RB at 1.1 per rush. Ridley had 12 carries for 13 yards. I think Trindon averaged 2.5 per rush.
It's not about JJ taking idiotic sacks. There is no disputing that. But at times when he moved the ball well in the air, we still couldn't run.

my bad.
You're talking about an incomplete pass?
You must be because I don't think he had a catch in that game either. I think I remember that. But come on... I'm talking about completions here even if it was the WRs fault.
I didn't say it's impossible for JL to throw a nice deep pass, I just said that he has not been good at deep passes like a few people think for some reason.
His first few games he showed promise in that area, but that was a long time ago. It's not been good news in that area recently for JL. Hopefully he can return to that promise if/whenever he gets in this year.

I dont think JJ was horrible. I mean he wasnt great. He made some very bad decisions at times. But i also dont see any reason why he could get anything but better with the experience he didnt have last season. With the way things are moving, Christmas might get here before Saturday does.

With the weapons they had....it sure wasn't good play. Watched it with my own eyes. That being said, I think it will be a bit better this year and wish JJ the best

I agree.

Even Peyton Manning struggled at times during his senior year, and he is one of the best decision making QBs since Montana. UT had a very young line that season, and I remember that UF in particular, just killed him. He was running for his life, and he wasn't exactly mobile. He had to completely carry them offensively, because they were in the bottom half of the SEC in rushing, and that was with a returning 1000 yard rusher. Poor O-Line play can mess up any offense, but it's a killer when you lack experience at QB.

Doesn't a statement like this throw into question his objectivity vis a vis televising an LSU football game.
Oh and by the way Gary, the viewers haven't been fooled we've known for years that you don't like LSU.

im tired of hearing Gary call shitty games

I noticed you left out his 9 carries for negative 32 yards--those would be 4 sacks, offsetting 5 regular carries by a magnitude of -32 yards
No, I didn't. I adjusted for it. Those 72 yards don't take into account the sacks. We officially finished with 40 yards rushing. Without the sacks, we only rushed for 72 yards on 18 carries.

Ah yes, Mr. Everyone Played Dime Against Us. Welcome to the argument.
Auburn has been broken down play by play. They had more than seven players in the box less than 10% of the time. The played less than seven players in the box around 40% of the time.
Auburn's defense keyed on the pass the entire game because they could stop the run with 5-6 in the box.

Why?
He tried to stop the pass by playing more pass coverages. He still stopped the run. It was the right coaching decision. Jefferson just played really well that night.

Did Danielson or the host himself say this?Finebaum is a flamethrower who loves to stir the pot. He's a basher.
Who cares what they say or think, anyway? The actually season arrives Saturday.

Well good. You and CBS stay away from LSU so we can have some more night games.

that's a link to a droppings thread. where is the real coaches breakdown LINK?

It was the right coaching decision.

Take as you'd like. I did the breakdown. I don't know of a single college that releases their film breakdowns.
Are you arguing that I was incorrect in my assessment?

Auburn simply wasn't very good last year and LSU played their best game of the season. They schemed to stop LSU passing game and failed. Do you think LSU would have thrown for less yards had Auburn not schemed to stop the pass?

Same can be said about Jason Campbell who stunk up the field until his final season at Auburn. But I see no reason to believe JJ or JL will have breakout seasons in 2010.
