You're the coach - give us your plan

Here's the hypothetical I'll throw out to our distinguished posters:
By some miracle, you are appointed the head coach of LSU starting today. You're faced with the situation as it is today, following the ZL signing. Can you make lemondae out of the situation? Can you turn adversity into opportunity?
You inherit things just as they are with the following clarifications (in case I have some of these things wrong :)) You can't fire
Crowton this year (buy out too big) but can make whatever other staff moves you want. You inherit the incoming class as it is and have one open spot since ZL quit and Porter has moved on. You can recruit any HS seniors you want if you can make a good case for them coming here. (extra points if they are already committed).
Here's a couple of thoughts from me:
- I'd give whoever the 2nd string QB is this year at least one series a half - and not just in garbage time. Sure it has risks but so does keeping them on the bench.
- I would not redshirt Rivers (and any other QB's we are able to land) next year. I'd give at least one of them as much playing time next year as I could (though if JL and JJ both come back the Frosh's playing time would likely mostly be in garbage time).

And.....I'd go find the best available JUCO QB out there and offer early playing time.
Oh......and no matter how much the buyout is.......Crowton is gone and I'm going find a young innovative Offensive mind that can develope QB's and let BG be my O-Coordinator

Yep, it would be good to have 2nd string QB to get in each game.

Step 1: Fire Gary Crowton immediately after this season.
Step 2: Hire a coordinator who runs the read-option and can make maximum use of our athletes.
Step 3: Find someone who can handle the work load as a running QB for 2012.
Hot damn.. Rueben Randle, Russell Shepard, Jarvis Landry as a receiving squad. Spencer Ware running at QB, Ford, Gore, and Hilliard at RB.
NCAA 2010 IRL.

I'd let Gonzalez be the OC the rest of the season. See how he works out, if not well, I'll find someone else in the offseason. Russell Shepard starts practicing with WRs and QBs, splitting time. If I cant find a good juco guy, I convince one of these top 15 qbs that you can get immediate playing time as a RS freshmen at LSU. If that 2012 year doesnt work out, I blame it on Les.

Scrap the entire team, they're obviously worthless (have you seen how low that offense is ranked! and our defense is always giving up those 3rd and long situations, SHEESH!)
Hold open tryouts on campus. I'm such a good coach that I could develop anybody to be the perfect mold of their position.
Recruit ONLY 5* stars from now on. LSU deserves nothing less. 4* stars don't deserve to grace the field in my presence.
After completing the above, institute my plan to win consecutive NCs. Pretty simple really...

frick that. I do not take the job unless I can bring in the staff I want.
No way do I go through another Les and Jimbo situation.

I'd let the coordinators call plays, Frank and Billy G handle recruiting, and I'd handle game mgmt (vetoing plays, clock mgmt, calling tons of blitzes). I'd ride around practice in a golf cart eating catfish and snowballs. Wit' a fire broad riding shotgun.
Oh yeah, my OL l-r would look like this:
Josh D, Blackwell, PJ, Hurst, Barksdale
Then I'd get fired.

Read-option do it nao

I would let Rivers play some. You have to throw him in the fire. Even if limited time you have to start getting him ready.

I would wait for the season to play out before making any major changes or decisions. Win win for me.

If the QB is in JUCO that means 1. He was no good enough to play in Division 1 ball anyway or 2. He is not smart enough to attend a real college or run an offense of Divison 1

:nb4 hire Saban as the DC then resign and have him appointed HC:

THIS! No mental defective JUCO QB's. That's pathetic desperation and scraping the bottom of the bottle.
I would try to get Oliver and/or Ely to change their minds and join Rivers.
Too late to make any coaching staff changes for the 2010 season.
Crowton on a extremely short leash. No offense through the first four games and he's gone. Gonzales takes over for remainder of season. After the season, I'd interview and then make my pick. (Miles could have hired Holgersen from Houston after last season, but sat idle and let him go to Okla. State.) Would talk to Brett Farve about coaching QB's if he finally retires. We all know he loves the game and can't just walk away. Being from just right up the interstate in Kiln MS, he might possibly want to do it. All he can do is say no, but I would definitely inquire to see if he might be interested.
Depending on how 2010 goes, Stud and Haley are most likely gone.
Would offer Bama OL coach Joe Pendry the bank to come and coach OL.
Depending on their age/health, I'd talk to Pete Jenkins or John Pease about coaching the DL. Jenkins is retired, but would talk to him about his interest. Pease has been the DL coach at Utah the last two years. Utah coach Kyle Wittingham talked Pease out of retirement. I would talk to both of them about their interest in coaching at LSU. Money talks.
Chavis and Cooper are safe. Gonzales, Wilson and Ensminger are safe for now until they prove they can't produce. Gonzales may be the next OC.....

Sam Gibson. He will be a junior and bg hs 2 years to get him ready.

I like ur post. Doubt we can get ely to change. I would pull out all stops and get brissett and get oliver just so we could have 4 possible qbs to choose from. with Bailey,Brissett, Rivers, Oliver, and one of the many athletes that played qb in highschool we could start molding today to be a choice in 2012.

I like your thinking. Favre as QB coach, Jerry Rice at WRs, Billy G as OC/ TEs. Ensminger can kick rocks.
