Why Does Everyone Think Lonergan Is An Upgrade?

Why does everyone think we will be better at center this year with Lonergan instead of Hebert? Hebert got (and still gets) a lot of criticism for his play last year. Still, is it fair to say that the only reason Lonergan got on the field in the last couple of games is because Hebert got injured? So Lonergan was not good enough to claim the center spot over Hebert? Moreover, Lonergan has not exactly had to fight to hold the position due to Hebert's injury and off-the-field issues.

Not trying to be an arse and have nothing against Lonergan or Hebert. Just asking a question.

I think the hate stems from the fact that T-Bob (like neighbor Hitt) was blown off the ball the entire season last season. Longergan is bigger and I guess hopefully harder to put on his back.

I think the general consensus is that after watching T-Bob get his arse handed to him almost every week, people wanted to see what Lonergan could do.

I was at the practice where T-Bob got hurt. Lonegran was taking most of the snaps with the 1's that day. I assumed he was about to take over whether or not T-Bob got hurt.

I can remember of a few plays off the top of my head, where T-Bob got thrown into the backfield. A couple against Moo, UGA and OM. How in the hell does you starting center get man handled? I mean just go blasted into the backfield, got no push what so ever. I dont believe PJ is an upgrade, but only because I havent seen him play as much. If he starts the season as number one, you'll have a good idea whether or not he is an upgrade.

Theyre both young, so hopefully (and theoretically) they will both get better, and close competition seems to push the players to get better faster. hence the optimism....

He's bigger, stronger, and doesn't have a knee surgery and broken leg in his recent past. All 5 OL positions should be improved. Josh and Barksdale are a year older, and Hurst, Lonergan, and Blackwell are better than last year's starters (I know Barksdale switched sides).

Longeran is bigger& stronger than T-Bob. And another reason I believe this will be an upgrade is that he has now had some time at center in the LSU system--after last season, spring & now fall. I don't think he played much center in high school--correct me if that's not right, and I'm sure plenty of you will--LOL!

Wrong. Lonergan is the best C we've had since Wilkerson.

On a broader point, I think Les is done playing guys unless they give LSU the best chance to win. He understands that the last two seasons are no acceptable, and he isn't going to risk the team's performance just to make sure some talk radio guy in New Orleans takes it easy on him. Along the same lines, I don't think he'll redshirt as many players this year either. Whatever ammo he's got, he's going to use it which is a good thing.

Ugh Helms was pretty damn good. How can you say he is the best since Wilkerson when the only 2 games he has played in was the bowl game and Tulane. You can't judge someone from that mud fest against PSt but he wasn't impressive what so ever against Tulane. It was his first game so I am not holding it against him, but to say how great he is makes you look like a hack

Saying he's the best since Big Ben is premature, but I personally believe the Tigers are better at the center position than they were a year ago today--of course, we'll have a much better idea about this once the season starts.
