Really in-depth article with diagrams and what-not. Nice to wake up to, it's issues like this that make still subscribing to a physical newspaper in 2010 worthwhile.

It seems like this thing would really help the Hornets a ton. If vendors are open and there's a legit place to congregate before Hornets games that would be huge. I hope that Benson allows this to happen.

They also had a good article on the Hyatt's plans to renovate on Page 1 of the money section.
With the Hyatt, Benson/Zelia Tower and Champions square and a new streetcar station on Loyola, the Dome will be hands down the best Superbowl venue in the country.

Agreed the number of casual places near the arena are pretty slim, and if I'm coming from work at 5:30 you feel like you're in a rush if you eat anywhere other than the arena.

New Superdome Entertainment Area is great for the franchise. Definitely will enhance the quality of attending games.

I have a relative high up in the organization and we talked about this recently. He said that it will be three phases of work. Phase one will be done by the opener, rough at best though. He also said that they are in talks with the people that run the Cirque de Soliel. Said that they want to have a year round training area there for them. They would do performances there also. He seemed pretty excited about it. Sad it will be incredible when finished.

build it and they will come!

this seems cool.
i wonder how bad it hurts the tailgating experience that has seemed to flourish the last few years.
I've never been on that ramp during gameday. How crowded does it usually get?

I still think (for night games) the casino / roosevelt / bud bridge is one of the best "tailgating" walks in the NFL. about 2 hours, 3 different atmospheres, and you're shitfaced by gametime.
beats sitting around in a parking lot drinking shitty beer and talking to fat dudes in cheap replica jerseys.
seattle had a great walk from downtown to the stadium as well.

you are right, tailgating has gotten pretty lame. We are trying something new this year, a walk kind of like u are talking about from my familys FQ condo...prob to Allegros, to this champions plaza thing(if it turns out like expected).
from my small experiences with the bud bridge, it always seemed like there was a lot of trash there. which is why i usually stayed away. plus we dont park in the dome, its hard to drag an ice chest around there.

Mardi GRAS is basically a 2 week tailgate. Couple that with a few LSU games per year and I never want to traditionally "tailgate" for a Saints game again unless its at Lambeau and is part of their culture.

According to the diagram above, there are 28 porta pissers. With a capacity of 8000 people that would come out to one piss-a-pot for every 285 people. That is a horrible ratio given the beer consumption that will take place out there.

Dear god I hope that's not a budweiser stage or I'm fricked

If they could anchor this entertainment district with a small Casino (sports themed?), a Dave and Buster's and a high end (40/40 club) sports bar, they would have no problem making this a successful year round venue.

It was all lit up this morning, I guess the lights around the video boards or something, when I passed there on my way to work. Should be pretty cool.
