Positives
1. Recruiting
2. Runs a clean program: Few off field issues/No NCAA violations
3. Good human being

Negatives
1. Not a conceptual genius like $aban/Spurrier/Petrino/Meyer and hence needs to rely on assistant coaches which leads to poor game day coaching and confusion.
2. Has not hired good assistant coaches lately. (1) McCarthy (2) Mallory/Peveto (3) Crowton (4) Studrawa (5) Lane. Even Chavis is not that great a hire.
3. Poor player development.

The jury is still out...they havent coached game one, but all indictations are that they were genius hires IMO

A couple of points...

One of these is definitely not like the other.

This is just stupid. Chavis was a proven coach in the SEC over 2 different decades and improved our defense A LOT form 2008 to 2009.

My only negative thing about Les Miles is his lack of fire he demonstrates. Hell against Tennessee a few years back when LSU was down at half and Les said we were going to come out in second half and kick their arse. Well that is my favorite Les memory. For some reason he looks so lackadaisical out there it bothers me.
I do not want him throwing head sets, slamming water bottles, but I would like to see some sign of anger, passion, against Alabama last year he should have been on that refs arse for the missed call.
Other than that he is a good coach, a great recruiter, and obviously a good person.

Agree with your 3 positives.

Three negatives:
Poor player developemnt
Poor game day coach.
Ryan Perriloux. Didn't have another QB in position to replace him.

This year will tell the tale for Miles.

Add to Positives:

1 National Championships (negates your original 3 negatives)

4 of 5 postseason bowl wins

5 consecutive winning seasons (worst season in 5 years was an 8-win season) and by percentage the winningest coach in LSU history (in coaches with more than 3 years as HC)

3 top-10 finishes (#5 in '05, #3 in '06, #1 in '07)

Add to negatives:
Comes across as "goofy" during media exposure

I agree with this. Bashing Coach Chavis is just wrong. You will see this year now that he has defensive ends that can rush the passer what he will do. I am excited to see if J.C. Copelands' game can continue at the college level. He is a one man wrecking crew. And Brockers will start if one of the other tackles can't handle the load. People are under estimating this defensive line.

That or they're too close for comfort. Depends on who you ask.

How many high school QB's are eager to sign with a program the year after they sign the #1 QB in the nation? Miles had two choices: let Perrilloux become a cancer in the locker room or take his lumps with a RS-freshman QB and keep the program healthy long term with the ability to build it back up after taking said lumps.
