IMO I think he'll be a great safety. He's one hell of an open field tackler and fast with good overall field awareness. He's seemed to have trouble in one on one coverage but with his new role i think he'll show us all 5 stars he came to us with. Here's to you JAI and one helluva senior year.

I agree.
It's a luxury to have his experience back there.

You know, I like him there also. He's fast and is very good at open field tackling. I could see him being like a Reggie Nelson at UF.

One problem with Jai is that for some reason he lacks the dedication to participate in Summer weightroom workouts.

kid has had some ups and downs, but he looks more excited than ever this year. really physical football player. i think he'll have a good season.

He has one drawback and that is he tends to try and jump a given throw at the wrong time. Another thing is he tends to get caught out of position at the wrong times. Now what causes that I do not know unless he just looses consentration out there, because I can see where it would be easy to get side tracked by getting caught up in the moment of being in the SEC on the biggest stage of all of College football!
But yes I think to he will have a great year this year the main reason is I don't think Shephard is going to put up with mediocraty out there with him being the way he is, he is the Captain and he will kick butt if they don't keep up.

Jai Eugene and Brandon Taylor are our starting safeties? Not sure there is a true run stopper between those two.

linebackers are run stoppers not safeties

Eh, we don't have a true SS back there

He plays to win the game.
He don't play to just play.

There are two variations of the position in a typical formation, the free safety (FS) and the strong safety (SS). Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field, respectively.
Safeties are the last line of defense, and are thus expected to be sure tacklers. As professional and college football have become more focused on the passing game, safeties have become more involved in covering receivers.[1]

More involved, which means that they aren't only out there for the pass

Hey, you asked for the definition, and I am a provider.

LSU's D-Line is also (as many have noted) incredibly tiny compared to other years, which means more runs up the middle.

Yes we do we have Loston! He will be starting with Taylor by the Miss St game if not before then. Read my previous post. Eugene is not that good at reading what is happening in front of him so he tries to jump the play and he gets beat by it. That is why they are moving him to safety to try and slow him down.
I do not think it will work to good. He is a CB and moving him to safety is going to cause the middle to be too open because he is going to try and jump the plays before he needs to and that is going to leave the middle open.
