4.Perhaps best of all, this LSU team enters the season as the hunter rather than the hunted. Yes, LSU is ranked by most pundits and polls heading into the season, but not as a Top 10 team. Few are discussing the Tigers as a national championship contender, or even as a favorite to win the SEC. The disrespect shown the team is so profound that at SEC Media Days last week the media ranked LSU a pathetic fourth in the SEC West. This is a good thing, as since Miles came on the scene LSU has been the media darling of the division, the league and even the country. That LSU was ranked so poorly by the league’s media is almost purely a reflection on the doom and gloom being spread on internet message boards and talk radio in Louisiana; sportswriters are not known for independent research or reliance on empirical facts, and when they see the herd stampeding in a particular direction they usually follow suit. So when LSU fans take to griping about Miles, the ink-stained wretches who converge on Birmingham in July will measure that against giddy fans of 7-5 Auburn and Arkansas teams and conclude LSU must be worse. This is a benefit for Miles’ team, which can now take on an “us against the world” mentality. No Tiger team of recent vintage enters a season with as much motivation.

Read what was posted on the Hayride in North La. see what is being said came out of the media days of the SEC 2 weeks ago. That was the reason they chose to go with Aub and Arky over LSU and that is plum rediculous to me. With the talent LSU has on both sides of the ball there is no way in hell that they have all of a sudden gotten better than LSU. The reason is all the negative posting by our fans and all the negative talk on the radio shows was the reason they gave for predicting LSU below them in 4th place of the Western division.

Only Mallett, McCloroy and Jefferson has the experiance to even have a chance to be in the top level in the SEC that has been proven year in and year out. For them to put Mosoli and Newton ahead of these others is not even funny and they know better from what has happened over the years with first year starters in the SEC Just doesn't happen. Tebow found out here in Death Valley the hard way it takes a year or two to even be able to understand what is going on around them on the field in the SEC with these defenses it is whay we are known for being a defensive league first then Offense. No one has made it to Atlanta without a strong defense the records show it and those two teams did not have it last year and they have not gotten top flight over night it takes time to develope a top notch defense. They are in for a long year and LSU has paid their dues the last 2 years and now it is our time if not this year next year for sure. I see for the umpteenth time 10-2, 11-1 or even 12-0 this year if the 10-2 then next year will be it for sure.

Odds are you will be bitterly disappointed. Miles, Crowton, QB's and offensive line would have had to make massive collective improvement in the offseason. Not only were they not on the same page last year, they weren't in the same book.

i would be quite surprised if LSU beats either one of those teams this fall frankly and since when does 'talent' equal wins? IMO LSU was 'outtalented' in only 2 games last year (if that), but ended up with 4 losses. The same amount I expect to see this year.

I would also like to pose this question. If LSU is so head and shoulders above arkansas talent wise the way you seem to think, why have the last 5 games been decided by less than a TD?

OK - here's a good hypothethical for everybody: Let's say you wake up tomorrow and you are the LSU AD. You get assurances from the TAF/other money guys that they have the $$ for a buy out for Miles and the rest of the staff.

What do you do?

You'd be an absolute idiot to fire Miles 5 weeks before kick off.

i do nothing until the end of the season. 9-3 or better and he stays. i wouldn't be happy with 8-4 at all, but you can't fire him. 7-5 or worse and i buy him out.

Would simply tell Les Miles the ball is in his court. But no coach is gonna get fired preseason.

As an administrator you have to define what is acceptable. Fortunately for Miles, his record wasn't terrible last year, but didn't meet a lot of fans expectations post NC.

My word to Miles would be that the money is in place, and if the offense is as shitty as it was last year, and the confusion on the field continues some heads will roll.

Records aren't everything.

If we were 9-4 last season, but without the debacle at the end of the Ole Miss game, without the #112 Offense in the country, and without your leading yards per average rusher not seeing the field while playing in a swamp, Miles would be catching a lot less heat.

The problem is that many people, including myself, feel that had it not been for subpar coaching, we could have finished 11-2 last season.

The first thing I would notify Miles that a search is in fact being made and that he has the ability to stop it or keep it in progress. There are ways to conduct a search without making it public and he would understand what the consequences are if thing have not improved this year over last.

Then I would give all the support it would take to insure Miles has the backing of all the admin but, there is little wiggle room. We must improve over what took place last year and relay that information to all the Coaches and players. They have to be informed of what is going to happen before anything happens. The other thing is that at the end of the year there will be a meeting on the condition and well being of the program and have answers to the why's and why nots. There has to be answers for all that takes place on and off the field and the Head Coach is responseble for all Coaches and players complying to the program's plans.

This seems very sensible to me. Although I might actually pull the plug earlier if the season went down hill fast. Say if they dropped 2 of the first 4 or 5. Then put one of the assistants as an interim coach and start the search for the best replacement I could find.

This season will be very interesting to watch, It will give us a much better picture of Miles coaching ability, or lack of. I'm gonna reserve judgement, sit back and watch.
