The "Jefferson is a Running Quarterback" Myth

Why does every LSU fan I talk to tell me this? And what can be done to convince them otherwise?
Matt Flynn was a more dynamic runner than Jefferson. The latter is purely a drop back passer, with some straight line speed but little to no wiggle.

Who the hell is saying this? Fans of other teams or people who are LSU "fans" who haven't seen a game the last two years.

I think Jefferson is best under center running play action and roll outs. I don't see Jefferson as a true running QB or a shot gun QB either.

but jamarcus wasnt known as a running qb... maybe because he was huge but he was black too. black people who arent huge should be able to run fast?

I think JJ looks better rolling out with the pass/run option. Not from the pocket though.

JJ is an athlete playing quarterback and that is all. Enough said.

When compared to Jarrett Lee, JJ is Jesse Owens.
Jefferson is not a very dependable runner on designed running plays, but if he could just make good, timely decisions when his receivers are covered downfield, it would be sufficient.

What's even funnier is the "Jefferson is a Passing Quarterback" Myth.
The kid just doesn't have it.

Disagree. JJ has very good passing skill but hasn't developed the ability to read the field yet. He has passing skills.

quote:More than sufficient. I agree with your post, but JJ IS a good runner. Go watch some highlights from last years UGA game, as well as the AU game. He had some great runs, and yes, he is very fast...deceptively so. He just isn't good with the designed runs. When the play breaks down, if he would take off instead of eating it, it would be beneficial.

spot on.. if we ever get a solid running game and Crowton ever decides these type of plays are more tailored toward JJs game than 5-wide sets and options then i think we could actually see him develop..

I think the Georgia Tech game kinda put it in everyones head that he's a running QB when he's actually not.

Crowton didn't do JJ, or the offense any favors last season. Tried to fit his personnel to a scheme, instead of the scheme to his players.

due to first impressions?
i.e., the last 3 games of 2008 his non-sack rushing yardage was 51, 83 and 41 yards. close to 60 yards per game average is pretty good (when we had a decent offensive line and rushing attack).
