No target on our back a good thing?

Ok so Les is for sure under the gun. But as a football program as a whole, most of the country isn't expecting much out of us. Predicting us, what, at 4th in the west? Anyone think this could actually be a good thing seeing as how all we can really do is exceed expectations? And maybe we'll get overlooked by some teams...just a thought

I agree. Staying under the radar and never let'em see you coming!
I have a good feeling about this season!

nobody's overlooking us. our first couple difficult opponents, UNC and WV, will be playing to make names for their teams and conferences against an SEC big boy. MSU will be gunning hard. as will UT. maybe if we've dropped a few by the time we hit the Bama/ AU/ Arky stretch, and they're looking real good, they might slightly overlook us. but I doubt it.

It could be looked at as no target on our back, but I think it is more of smelling blood in the water.

4th of 6 in our division. Even ARK and AU got more respect.

If LSU wins games, and wins with some strength - surprisingly - we will quickly climb in the polls and become a "come-back" story, with few overlooking us.

We've so seldom been underdogs in games over the past five years, it's hard to get a gauge on how he performs in that role.
Other than Alabama and Florida, have we been underdogs in any other games over the last two years?
Prior to that, we were maybe underdogs in a couple of games...Miami in the Peach Bowl, I think, and maybe on the road at Alabama in 2005, Auburn and Florida in 2006, I think? Was Georgia Tech favored over us in the 2008 Peach Bowl?
I'm not aware of any other games when we were underdogs, or even when we were technically favored but most thought we would lose.
If those above are the only ones, that works out to 3 wins (Miami and Alabama, 2005, Georgia Tech 2008) and 6 losses (Alabama and Florida '08 and '09, Auburn and Florida '06).

Les on being an underdog. Get em coach.

I agree, lessening the expectations from all around college football about LSU is a great thing. Get'em Les!

As eloquent as always.

Oh yeah, by a lot, too.

Yes, it's really a GREAT thing for people to perceive that our football program is in decline...

We're LSU...there's always a target on our back.

Louisiana State is currently the underdog vs all 6 of the ranked teams on the schedule.

I'm not saying our program is on a decline, because if it wasn't for the QB problems we'd be a top 5 pre season ranked team. I'm simply saying that with all the media predicting us to not do any better than last year, it could be a possibility we win a few games that would surprise some people, but not surprise us. I personally think we will do much better than expected and will watch every game expecting to get the "W"!

I posted this on another thread and feel it can be used here. This is how I feel about this coming year.
To me last year was a shouldah, wouldah, couldah year!
This year is going to be a KICK arse year!
Everyone is not looking for us but we do have just enough of IT to pick us up if we get to the Bama game undefeated we will be playing Bama for everything. After all we are still LSU and everyone knows what we are capable of doing since we have won 2 BCS NC's. All it will take is for us to win the games as they come and it will give us the right to be ranked in the top 5. If we beat Bama we will have The right to be #2 possibly #1 ranking and then the right for Atlanta.
So buckle your seatbelts and hold on we are going for a ride for the ages! If you can not look at all the talent that we have and at how young and experianced we are, there absolutely has to be something wrong with you. There then is nothing that will ever satisfy you whatsoever!

I think the poor preseason predictions may have put a chip on their shoulder. If so, we may have a very focused and intense team. This is further backed up by minimal off season incidences of mischief and some outstanding work in the conditioning program. Sounds like a team that is tired of hearing the smack. I sure hope this is the case.

You don't want to start off the season ranked too low. Remember Auburn in 2004? Remember what almost happened to LSU in 2003? And it's not like our most recent national championship was that long ago. Other teams know that, regardless of any perceived coaching inadequacies, LSU is a talented, dangerous team.

I think its good for inspiration but with the name on the sides of our helmets, we wont get overlooked.
